Heats Norman Powell Stuns Crowd With Wild Shot Against Nets

Norman Powell stole the spotlight with a buzzer-beating half-court splash and a standout performance that powered the Heat past the Nets.

Norman Powell gave Heat fans a moment to remember Thursday night, drilling a halfcourt buzzer-beater that sent Miami into halftime with a jolt of momentum-and ultimately helped power them to a 106-95 win over the Brooklyn Nets.

Now in his 11th NBA season and first with Miami, Powell continues to show why he's one of the league’s most underrated scorers. He’s not the flashiest name on the roster, but he’s become a key piece for the Heat, stepping into a scoring role that’s been crucial for a team still finding its rhythm. Against Brooklyn, he didn’t just show up-he took over.

That highlight-reel heave to close the first half wasn’t just for show. It was a statement.

Powell’s confidence in his range, even from 47 feet out, is part of what makes him so dangerous. And on a night when Miami needed someone to seize control, he answered the call.

The game itself was a grind. Through three quarters, it was a back-and-forth battle, with Miami holding just a 77-73 edge heading into the final 12 minutes.

But in the fourth, the Heat locked in. They outscored Brooklyn 29-22 in the final frame, thanks to timely shot-making, disciplined execution, and a noticeable edge at the free-throw line.

That’s where the Heat separated themselves-shot selection and composure. Miami shot 46% from the field and 32% from deep, and they made the most of their trips to the stripe, going 15-for-19.

The Nets, meanwhile, shot just 39% overall, hit 22% from three, and only knocked down eight free throws all night. In a close game, those margins matter.

Powell led the way with 24 points, adding five rebounds, three steals, and two assists. He was efficient and aggressive-8-of-14 from the field, 3-of-5 from beyond the arc, and 5-of-6 at the line.

When Miami needed a bucket, he delivered. But he wasn’t alone.

Rookie big man Kel’el Ware continues to impress, putting up 22 points and 12 boards in another strong showing. Jaime Jaquez Jr. added 19 points and five rebounds, while Andrew Wiggins and Davion Mitchell chipped in 10 apiece. It was a balanced effort, with five players scoring in double figures-a trademark of this Heat team when they’re at their best.

With the win, Miami improved to 15-12 on the season, climbing to seventh in the Eastern Conference. They’re tied with the 76ers for sixth and just half a game behind both the Celtics and Magic. The standings are tight, and every win counts in a crowded East.

Next up: a big test in Boston. The Heat stay on the road to face the Celtics on December 19 at 7 p.m.

ET. If Powell and company bring the same energy they showed against Brooklyn-especially in that fourth quarter-they’ll be ready for the challenge.
