Bam Adebayo may want Gabe Vincent back in Miami, but the Heat aren’t there yet.
As the Heat keep sorting through ways to round out the supporting cast around Giannis Antetokounmpo in year one, Vincent has naturally surfaced as a possible option. He’s familiar, he’s available after his contract with the Lakers ended, and according to recent reporting, he’s a former Heat guard Adebayo would love to see return for another run.
For the moment, though, Miami is looking elsewhere.
Per longtime Heat insider Barry Jackson, the team has decided against bringing Vincent back right now. The Heat are expected to add another guard or wing, maybe even a couple before training camp opens, but Vincent does not appear to be in line to make that group. Miami is prioritizing bigger guards instead.
That doesn’t necessarily close the door forever. The Heat could always circle back later if the market thins out and some of their other targets disappear. If LeBron James does not sign with Miami, and DeMar DeRozan goes with LeBron or chooses a homecoming in Toronto, the Heat could find themselves with fewer veteran paths to chase.
At that point, Vincent would be worth revisiting.
The fit is obvious on both sides because of the history there. Vincent knows the Heat, and the Heat know what they got from him in Miami. That familiarity is exactly why a reunion can’t be ruled out down the line, even if it’s not happening now.
And there’s another layer to it: Vincent never looked quite the same in Los Angeles as he did with the Heat. During his Miami stint, the organization seemed to get the best version of him. If he feels that way too, a return would make sense now that his Lakers deal is over.
But it would still take Miami being willing to go there, and right now it isn’t.
So even with Adebayo apparently pushing for it, Vincent is not in the cards at the moment. Still, with the Heat’s roster situation unsettled and more moving parts ahead, this is one to watch. If Bam is lobbying behind the scenes, that only adds a little more intrigue to a possibility that hasn’t gone away entirely.
