Ryan Conwell didn’t need a long summer to make his case in Miami.
After four total Summer League games, the Heat decided they’d seen enough and sent the second-round pick home early, a move that says plenty about where he stands with the coaching staff. Conwell logged three games in the California Classic and one in Las Vegas, and the numbers were hard to ignore: 21 points, five rebounds, and three assists per game on 41 percent shooting in California, then 19 points on 44 percent shooting in his lone Las Vegas outing.
That kind of production is exactly how a player starts turning heads in July. In Conwell’s case, it appears to have earned him more than just a good review - it may have put him on track for a real chance to crack Miami’s rotation right away.
The Heat have already reshaped their roster around Giannis Antetokounmpo, and that makes every useful piece matter even more. Conwell may not be asked to carry a major load, but he could become the kind of depth piece that helps the whole thing work, especially with Miami’s need in the backcourt.
That’s the bigger picture here. The Heat have the top-end talent to matter in the postseason, but the difference between being dangerous and being truly complete often comes down to what’s behind the stars. The New York Knicks, San Antonio Spurs, and Oklahoma City Thunder were among the final teams standing for a reason: they had the kind of depth that holds up when the games get tight.
Miami is trying to build that same kind of balance now. Conwell is just one part of it, but if he can become a reliable rotation option, he could give the Heat the sort of extra support that matters over the course of a season.

LeBron Just Got Hit With A Brutal Heat Reality Check
LeBron James move to Miami has already sparked the kind of debate that follows any late-career star signing, especially when the expectations around a teams playoff ceiling are already being measured against the Easts top names. Some around the league are questioning how much of an impact he can still make, even as the Heat try to blend his experience with the kind of front-line talent that can keep them in the conversation.
The skepticism has only sharpened the spotlight on what James can still bring to a roster built to chase wins now, not later. Miami has plenty to sort through with Bam Adebayo anchoring the middle and the rest of the rotation trying to find its footing, but the bigger question is whether James can still tilt a series the way he once did or whether this is the rare Heat move that leaves more doubt than certainty. Nikola Jovic Shares The Jimmy Butler Story Heat Fans Will Love
Nikola Jovic has seen plenty of Jimmy Butler up close, and the picture he paints is exactly the one Heat fans would expect: relentless, competitive and a little bit overwhelming for everyone else in the gym. Jovic talked about Butlers work ethic and skill, but the part that stands out is how that edge showed itself in Miami practices and training camp, where even the teams best young players learned quickly how hard Butler pushes every possession.
That same mentality carried into the 2023 playoffs, when Butler turned the first-round series against Milwaukee into one of the defining stretches of Miamis postseason run. He averaged 37.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.8 assists in that matchup, and Jovic said the performance left a lasting impression. For a Heat team that has lived off toughness and belief for years, Butlers ability to raise the standard in the biggest moments is still the kind of story that resonates. [Read more 🡒]
