Gabe Vincent sees Davion Mitchell as the kind of player who can swing things for the Miami Heat in the 2026-27 season, but there’s a strong case that Pelle Larsson could wind up being the more important piece.
In a recent interview with former professional basketball player Trey Mourning, Vincent pointed to Mitchell’s offense as the key to his value.
“It’s going to be Giannis, then Klay setting the screens, and Davion becomes your X-factor entirely,” he said. “If Davion’s not making threes, it’s going to look very different.”
That makes Mitchell a clear name to watch. Playing alongside multiple All-Stars should create space, and defenses may be willing to give him room around the floor.
If they do, he can punish them by cutting to the basket or knocking down shots from deep. The Heat will be counting on the stars to draw the attention; Mitchell’s job will be to make teams pay for the extra help.
Still, Larsson may have an even bigger lane to matter. He is projected to take a jump and become a major part of Miami’s bench unit, and his recent run in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 European Qualifiers only strengthened that case.
Over four games, the 25-year-old averaged 26 points on 42.9 percent shooting, along with 2.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists. He also dropped 31 points in consecutive games against Slovenia and Finland.
That kind of surge opens the door for a rare kind of season. The former second-round pick has a shot to contend for both Sixth Man of the Year and Most Improved Player, something that has not happened since Darrell Armstrong in 1998-99.
Vincent knows the Heat’s system well enough to speak from experience. He spent four years with the organization and had his breakout in 2022-23, when he put up 9.4 points on 40.2 percent shooting, 2.1 rebounds, and 2.5 assists in 68 games. He also worked his way into the starting lineup late in the season.
When the playoffs arrived, Vincent’s role grew even more. Across 22 games, including a run to the NBA Finals, he averaged 12.7 points on 40.2 percent shooting, 1.4 rebounds, and 3.5 assists. Along with Max Strus, Caleb Martin, and Haywood Highsmith, he was one of the Heat’s defining X-factors during that postseason run.
