Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Bam Adebayo just added a little more hardware to their growing résumés.
The NBA announced that Gilgeous-Alexander has been named the Western Conference Player of the Week, while Adebayo takes home the honors in the East. Both players were instrumental in leading their squads to winning records over the past week, and their individual performances were nothing short of elite.
Let’s start in Oklahoma City, where Gilgeous-Alexander continues to operate like a seasoned vet in full command of his game. The Thunder went 2-1 over the stretch, and the reigning MVP was at the heart of it all, averaging 31 points and four assists per game while shooting a scorching 54.7% from the field.
That kind of efficiency, especially for a high-usage guard, is rare. It’s not just the volume-Shai’s doing it with precision, poise, and a calm that’s become his trademark.
Whether he’s carving up defenses in isolation or making the right read out of a double team, his control of the offense is what makes OKC such a tough out every night.
Over in Miami, Bam Adebayo reminded everyone why he’s the anchor of the Heat on both ends of the floor. The big man averaged 27 points and 8.3 rebounds while shooting an eye-popping 65.5% from long range.
That’s not a typo-Adebayo, known more for his interior presence and mid-range touch, showed off some expanded range this week. If that outside shot becomes a consistent weapon, it adds a whole new wrinkle to Miami’s offense.
This marks the third time Adebayo has earned Player of the Week honors, and his first since January 2024.
Both players beat out a strong field of contenders.
In the West, Donovan Clingan and Shaedon Sharpe represented the Trail Blazers, while DeMar DeRozan (now with the Kings), Luka Dončić (Lakers), James Harden (Clippers), Jamal Murray (Nuggets), Alperen Şengün (Rockets), and Victor Wembanyama (Spurs) also received nominations. That’s a loaded list of talent, but Shai’s consistency and efficiency gave him the edge.
In the East, Brandon Miller (Hornets), Norman Powell (Heat), Pascal Siakam (Pacers), Anfernee Simons (Celtics), Jaylon Tyson (Cavaliers), and Nikola Vučević (Bulls) were all in the mix. Adebayo’s two-way dominance and expanded offensive game helped him stand out from a deep group of candidates.
For both Gilgeous-Alexander and Adebayo, this isn’t just a nice midseason accolade-it’s a reflection of how central they are to their teams’ identities. As the playoff race heats up, both the Thunder and Heat are leaning heavily on their stars to set the tone. And if this past week is any indication, they’re more than ready for the challenge.
