Troy Aikman Reveals Bold Future Move With Dolphins

Troy Aikman signals a deeper commitment to the Miami Dolphins while balancing his enduring broadcasting career.

Troy Aikman’s journey with the Dolphins seems far from over. After stepping in as a consultant during their recent search for a new head coach and GM, the Hall of Fame quarterback has shared his future plans with the organization on the “Rodeo Time” podcast. Known for his post-football career in broadcasting, Aikman opened up about his long-standing interest in working within an NFL front office.

During his chat with host Dale Brisby, Aikman explained that while he had always been drawn to front office roles, personal commitments kept him from pursuing them earlier. After his divorce, he prioritized being present for his daughters, putting such ambitions on hold. Later, as opportunities arose, he was transitioning to ESPN alongside Joe Buck, a partnership he greatly enjoys and continues to thrive in.

Aikman mentioned, “I’m gonna continue to work with [the Dolphins] in some capacity and so that’s kind of scratched whatever itch I’ve had when it came to being in the front office but I’m very blessed.” His broadcasting career remains fulfilling, especially with his long-standing collaboration with Buck, marking nearly 25 years together.

The Dolphins brought Aikman on board in January to assist in their first GM search since 2000, following the departure of Chris Grier. While initially surprised by Miami’s call, Aikman embraced the role, contributing significantly to the process that led to the hiring of Green Bay’s Jon-Eric Sullivan. Reports suggest Aikman was a strong advocate for Sullivan during the selection.

Aikman also played a key role in the hiring of Jeff Hafley as head coach. According to ESPN’s Jeff Darlington, sources highlighted Aikman’s deep involvement and commitment throughout the process. Despite these engagements, Aikman remains dedicated to his broadcasting duties with ESPN, where he and Buck are set to call Super Bowl LXI, marking the network’s inaugural broadcast of the event.
