Saints Stun NFC South With Surprise QB Signing

Zach Wilson joins the New Orleans Saints, aiming to bolster their quarterback depth with his seasoned presence and competitive edge.

Zach Wilson is on the move again, and this time he's heading to the Big Easy. According to Saints insider Nick Underhill, the New Orleans Saints have signed the former BYU standout, adding some intriguing depth and experience to their quarterback roster.

Wilson, now 26, was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. He brings a veteran presence and a competitive edge to a quarterback room already featuring Tyler Shough, who impressed as a rookie starter, and backup Spencer Rattler. The Saints are clearly looking to bolster their options under center, and Wilson's arrival does just that.

This marks Wilson's third team in as many seasons, having spent 2025 with the Miami Dolphins and 2024 with the Denver Broncos. Although he hasn't started a game since 2023, his experience with the New York Jets, where he started 33 games, is invaluable.

During his tenure with the Jets, Wilson threw for over 6,200 yards, with 23 touchdowns and 25 interceptions, and added another 499 yards and five touchdowns on the ground. These numbers reflect a player who's seen both the highs and lows of NFL quarterbacking.

In 2025, Wilson saw limited action with the Dolphins, completing 6 of 11 passes for 32 yards in backup duty. While those numbers don't jump off the page, his presence in New Orleans could provide the spark needed to push the competition in the Saints' QB room.

Wilson's journey began at BYU, where he dazzled fans with his arm and athleticism. He passed for 7,652 yards and accounted for 71 touchdowns, leading the Cougars to an impressive 11-1 record and a No. 11 national ranking in 2020. His college career set the stage for his early NFL selection and the potential he still carries.

As Wilson joins the Saints, fans will be watching closely to see how his experience and talent blend with the youthful energy of Shough and Rattler. It's a new chapter for Wilson, and perhaps, a chance to reignite the promise he once showed as a top draft pick.
