NFC Contender Linked To DeVon Achane In Wild Trade Push

Seahawks' interest in Dolphins' RB De'Von Achane sparks buzz, but potential trade hurdles loom large as speculation swirls.

The Miami Dolphins are making waves with their recent roster shake-ups, and the latest buzz surrounds their standout running back, De’Von Achane. This comes on the heels of a blockbuster trade that sent wide receiver Jaylen Waddle to the Denver Broncos. The Dolphins aren't shying away from big changes, having already released former All-Pro wideout Tyreek Hill and seen starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa sign with the Atlanta Falcons.

With Miami in the midst of a rebuild and Achane entering the final year of his contract, it seems reasonable to wonder if he's next on the trade block. However, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Dolphins have made it clear that Achane isn't being shopped around. Teams reaching out about the Pro-Bowl running back have been told he's not available.

Despite this, the rumor mill is buzzing, especially with whispers about the Seattle Seahawks potentially making a move for Achane. The Seahawks, fresh off a Super Bowl win, have reportedly expressed interest.

They’re in need of a top-tier running back after losing Super Bowl 60 MVP Kenneth Walker III to the Kansas City Chiefs in free agency. Currently, Zach Charbonnet and newcomer Emanuel Wilson are leading their backfield.

Jeremy Brener of Sports Illustrated argues that while the Dolphins' asking price might be steep, Seattle should consider going after Achane if he becomes available. At just 24 years old, Achane has a promising career ahead, and securing him with a trade and extension could solidify the Seahawks’ backfield for years.

From Miami's perspective, holding onto Achane for now could be strategic. If they’re not in playoff contention by the trade deadline, they could look to move him then, similar to the Carolina Panthers' lucrative mid-season trade involving Christian McCaffrey in 2020. Achane's impressive stats-3,057 rushing yards and 22 touchdowns over his first three seasons-suggest Miami could command a significant return.

For now, the Dolphins seem content to keep their star running back, but as the NFL Draft approaches, the situation could evolve. Teams in need of a running back might just have to wait and see how things play out in Miami.
