Florida State had Miami on the ropes, then watched overtime unravel in a hurry.
A holding call against left tackle Xavier Chaplin wiped out what would have been a stunning touchdown by Micahi Danzy, and on the very next snap, Duce Robinson appeared to haul in a score only for the play to be ruled an interception after review. That sequence ended the game and left the Seminoles staring at a brutal finish.
Mike Norvell made no effort to soften his view of the first call. After already blasting the officiating right after the game, he doubled down during his Week 8 press conference and called the holding penalty on Chaplin "an absolute joke."

Norvell had previously said the officials should "go watch the film," insisting the mistake would be obvious on review.
The frustration isn’t just about losing. Florida State had battled through plenty, including being close to a three-touchdown underdog and dealing with a season-ending injury to running back Ousmane Kromah. The Seminoles weren’t perfect, but they played a hard, clean game against Miami and gave themselves a real shot.
That’s what makes the ending sting so much. Florida State fought hard enough to earn a chance in overtime, only to see two controversial calls swing the finish away from them.
Norvell was still angry about the holding call, but he also pointed to the Robinson play. He argued that the touchdown should have stood because both players had possession of the ball in the air, which would have triggered simultaneous possession and given Robinson the score. Instead, the interception call held up, and Florida State was done.
Now the Seminoles have to turn the page quickly. They get Week 8 off before returning in Week 9 against Clemson, a team that has won nine of the last ten meetings.

Dolphins Passing Game Puts Malik Willis Under Early AFC East Pressure
The Dolphins returned from their Week 6 off weekend with a familiar checklist waiting for them before Sundays game against the Jets. Miami is still searching for its first win and has yet to play a division game this season, which only adds weight to a Week 7 matchup that already feels important in the bigger AFC East picture. With the roster leaning on rookies and second-year players as part of a broader rebuild, the passing game has become one of the clearest gauges of whether this group is moving forward.
The problem, though, is that the offense has not yet given Miami much to build on. The passing attack has been uneven, and the pressure is landing on a quarterback who has to show more growth while the coaching staff and skill players do their part around him. For a team trying to stabilize itself early in the season, the next step is not just about execution against New York, but about whether the Dolphins can start getting cleaner answers from the same unit that has made life harder than it should be. Dolphins Could Need Caleb Douglas Sooner Than Expected Against The Jets
Caleb Douglas is set to get back on the field Monday, giving the Dolphins a chance to see how quickly the rookie wide receiver can ramp up after the ankle injury that has kept him out since the game against the San Francisco 49ers. Miami has needed to juggle its receiver depth while Douglas has been sidelined, and his return to practice at least opens the door for him to rejoin the mix before long.
Jeff Hafley said Douglas will be limited at first, which means this week will be more about tracking his progress than making any immediate assumptions about his availability. For a Dolphins offense that can use every healthy option it can get, Douglas's return timeline is now one of the quieter but still important storylines to watch as the week unfolds. [Read more 🡒]
Dolphins Backfield Crisis Could Force A New RB Into Action Fast
The Dolphins had to move quickly after De'Von Achane's season-ending torn ACL left the backfield thinner and forced Miami to look for help on the waiver wire. That led to the addition of Kaytron Allen, a former Penn State back whose physical running style and college production gave the front office a reason to bring him in as the team tried to steady a depth chart suddenly under stress.
Head coach Jeff Hafley pointed to Allens toughness and the way Miami evaluated him against Washington and throughout the draft process, a sign the Dolphins saw more than just emergency depth in the pickup. Allen has not yet had a chance to play for Miami because of the timing of the move and the bye week, but with injuries stacking up in the running back room, his first opportunity could come sooner rather than later.
