The Miami Dolphins find themselves in a challenging spot roster-wise, but with Malik Willis at the helm as quarterback, there's a glimmer of hope that this crucial position is finally settled. While the Dolphins are ready to give Willis his shot, there are skeptics who doubt how smoothly this will unfold.
Willis has flashed potential but has also faced his share of struggles. Despite this, the Dolphins' confidence in him remains strong, even if not everyone shares their optimism.
Recently, ESPN's Dan Orlovsky suggested that Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson might be worth considering for Miami. His suggestion isn't about replacing Willis outright, but rather having a backup plan if Willis doesn’t meet expectations.
Orlovsky noted, “I think they can get a draft wide receiver to build around earlier in the draft. But it does make me think, because there are two teams that are great places for the Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson. Arizona would be one, and Miami would be another."
He continued, “I know they just paid Malik Willis. I know that. But given the timeline, and given just the style of the quarterback with the style of offense that would be in Miami, at least under this regime, it makes me think, even though they signed Malik Willis, they should do their homework and entertain drafting Ty Simpson in Miami.”
While Simpson could very well carve out a successful NFL career, drafting him right after investing in Willis seems counterintuitive-unless there’s underlying doubt about Willis’ future with the team. This scenario would certainly raise eyebrows and questions about the Dolphins' long-term strategy.
