The Miami Dolphins are navigating a significant transition period, with a fresh head coach and general manager at the helm. They've made a big splash by investing heavily in new quarterback Malik Willis. However, despite these changes, the current roster leaves much to be desired for the upcoming 2026 season.
This offseason has seen the departure of key veterans such as Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, and Bradley Chubb, leaving the roster in a precarious state. The wide receiver corps, in particular, looks alarmingly thin.
If the season were to kick off today, the Dolphins would be relying on Malik Washington, Jalen Tolbert, and Tutu Atwell. This lineup doesn't inspire confidence, especially when considering the substantial investment in Willis.
It's challenging to properly assess a quarterback's potential without adequate support.
Zachary Pereles from CBS Sports has pinpointed a potential solution: signing free agent wide receiver Jauan Jennings. Jennings, who spent his first five years with the San Francisco 49ers, has proven himself as a reliable pass-catcher. While not a top-tier receiver, Jennings could provide the stability and experience needed to bolster the Dolphins' receiving unit.
In 2025, Jennings recorded 55 receptions for 643 yards and nine touchdowns. His standout season came in 2024, with 77 catches for 975 yards and six touchdowns.
Over his career, Jennings has amassed 210 receptions for 2,581 yards and 22 touchdowns. Spotrac estimates that Jennings could command a three-year contract worth $22.6 million annually.
Although this might seem pricey, the Dolphins' need for a seasoned receiver like Jennings is pressing.
With two first-round picks in the upcoming draft, including the 11th and 30th selections, it's likely the Dolphins will look to add a pass-catcher. However, bringing Jennings on board could provide immediate assistance and act as a reliable target for Willis, easing the pressure on the younger receivers and enhancing the overall offensive strategy.
