The Miami Dolphins are giving themselves options at kicker after Riley Patterson’s shaky opening stretch in 2026 forced the issue.
Patterson has missed field goal attempts in both Week 1 against the Las Vegas Raiders and Week 2 against the San Francisco 49ers, and head coach Jeff Hafley made clear after the loss to San Francisco that the team needed better from that spot.
“ Yeah, we gotta hit field goals, ” said Hafley. “ That’s two misses in two games.
We are counting on him to make those kicks. ”
Miami followed that up on Tuesday by working out three kickers: Chris Freeman, Tanner Brown and Lucas Havrisik.
Freeman spent his college career at UConn and signed with the Houston Texans earlier this offseason before being released two days later.
Brown entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2023 and has had stints with the Los Angeles Rams, Atlanta Falcons and New Orleans Saints, along with the Louisville Kings of the United Football League. He has not kicked in an NFL game, but he went 25-for-28 on field goals with a long of 60 yards for Louisville earlier this year.
Havrisik has bounced around the NFL with the Indianapolis Colts, Cleveland Browns, Los Angeles Rams, Buffalo Bills and Green Bay Packers, and he also spent time with the Arlington Renegades of the UFL. In the NFL, he has made 19 of 24 field goal attempts, including a long of 61 yards.
The Dolphins have not signed any of the three as of now, but if Patterson keeps struggling, a change could come quickly.
