The Miami Dolphins may be 1-6 through the first eight weeks of their 2026 season, but that hasn’t stopped one of their best defenders from popping up in trade chatter.
Albert Breer of The MMQB pointed to Dolphins linebacker Jordyn Brooks as a possible target for the Detroit Lions, who face Miami in Week 9. The fit, Breer said, comes down to the Lions’ need at linebacker after the situation with Jack Campbell.
“Now, linebacker, this is interesting, because, of course, the situation with Jack Campbell. Real-life implications here, we’re not trivializing any of that.
But, there is the fact that that leaves a significant hole for the Lions at the linebacker position,” Breer said. “And so, would you make a call on somebody like Jordyn Brooks in Miami?
“I don’t think Miami wants to let go of its veteran leaders, but they’re another team that needs players. I look at Jordyn Brooks as somebody that you could potentially make a move for if you’re willing to put something valuable in front of the Dolphins to try and shore up that hole.
And he’s somebody that could be around for an extended period. A lot of that is going to depend on Jack Campbell’s status.”
For Miami, though, moving Brooks would be a major decision. The Dolphins brought him in as a player to build around when the new regime arrived this offseason, and he backed that up by earning All-Pro honors in 2025. Jon-Eric Sullivan and Jeff Hafley rewarded him in July with a three-year, $51.3 million extension that keeps him under contract through 2029.
The Dolphins may like what they have in Jacob Rodriguez, but Brooks remains the clear leader of the linebacker room and one of the top voices on the defense. Given that, it would take a hefty offer for Miami to even consider dealing him.

Dolphins Face A Brutal Lions Test With One Real Opening
The Dolphins head into Week 9 with a matchup that looks about as unforgiving as it gets, traveling to face a Lions team coached by former Miami interim head coach Dan Campbell. Detroit brings the leagues top overall offense into the game, while Miami is trying to steady a pass defense that has struggled all season, making this one of those tests where the margin for error feels razor thin.
There is at least one opening for Miami to watch, and it starts with the condition of Detroits defense. The Lions have been dealing with key injury questions in the secondary and at linebacker, which could shape how aggressive they can be against Miamis passing game. If the Dolphins are going to make this interesting, they will need to take advantage of those matchup concerns and avoid letting Detroit turn the game into a track meet. [Read more 🡒]
Kenneth Grants Early Struggles Are Becoming A Real Dolphins Concern
Kenneth Grants return from a toe injury was supposed to give the Dolphins another disruptive presence up front, but early on the rookie first-round pick has been more of a work in progress than an immediate answer. Through Week 5, his impact has been limited in both the pass rush and run defense, even as Miami has gradually increased his playing time while the coaching staff continues to sort out what it has in the young interior lineman.
The concern for the Dolphins is less about one quiet stretch than what it might mean if the early trend holds. Grant was brought in to help change the look of the defensive front, but the production has not matched the investment yet, and the evaluation is still unfolding as Miami looks for signs that his game is starting to catch up with his draft status. Dolphins Face Late Roster Decisions Before Lions Game
The Dolphins head into their Week 9 matchup with Detroit without any players ruled out, but the injury report still leaves a few moving parts to sort through before kickoff. Miami listed three players as questionable, and with the Saturday roster deadline looming, the team may need to make some last-minute adjustments to stay covered at key spots.
Jaylen Wright, Kaytron Allen and Malik Herring are among the names creating uncertainty, which could force Miami to look at its practice squad for temporary help. The Lions, meanwhile, cleared safety Brian Branch from concussion protocol but still have their own injury concerns, with backup running back Sione Vaki questionable and five players already ruled out.
