The Jets are leaning into a tight end room that looks like it’s going to stay busy.
Mason Taylor, Kenyon Sadiq, Jeremy Ruckert and Andrew Beck are all on the active roster, and Taylor made it clear the group believes OC Frank Reich has plenty to work with. Taylor pointed to the depth in that room after Sadiq scored on a touchdown run in Week 1.
“Coach Reich, he’s going to have a hell of a time scheming for our offense,” Taylor said, via Rich Cimini of ESPN. “We have a bunch of skill in that room - not just him, but, I mean, he’s smooth, he’s quick, and he’s as athletic as hell.”
Aaron Glenn sounded just as encouraged by what he’s seeing from the group, saying the Jets are steadily expanding their responsibilities.
“That’s an improved group, and each week we’re giving them more and more on their plate so we can try to take advantage of who they are,” Glenn said of his four tight ends.
Glenn also said kicker Jason Sanders will get the starting job again this week. On the injury front, wide receiver Omar Cooper, running back Kene Nwangwu, safety Minkah Fitzpatrick and defensive end Joseph Ossai are out, while cornerback D’Angelo Ponds and defensive end Will McDonald are set to play.
Elsewhere in the AFC notes, Dolphins offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik talked about the balancing act for quarterback Malik Willis - knowing when to let a play breathe and when to get the ball out quickly.
“Me and him working together in that regard on making sure that he still has the freedom and the ability to go use that strength while balancing that out with when the play presents itself, and we can get the ball out fast and let’s take advantage of that.”
