Riley Patterson’s Thursday turned into more than just another Dolphins training camp day.
During Miami’s joint session with the New York Giants at the Baptist Health Training Complex, the kicker and his wife Claire used the moment for a gender reveal announcing their second pregnancy. Patterson kicked a ball that burst pink, confirming the baby is a girl. After the reveal, the couple embraced and then shared the moment with Dolphins teammates.
Patterson later summed up the scene in an Instagram caption: “3 is a crowd 4 is a party.”
The post drew reactions from friends and around the NFL world, including Zach Wilson’s wife, Nicolette; Tommy Townsend; and Jordan Stout. “Aw so excited for you.
Congratulations.” Townsend wrote, while Stout added, “Happy for you guys!!!”
The family news adds another chapter to a relationship that started back in high school. Patterson’s Instagram history says he and Claire began dating in 2015, got engaged in January 2021, and married in Edwardsville, Illinois, in April 2022.
Patterson shared wedding photos on Instagram at the time and joked, “I’m here to celebrate my wife and marriage, not my dance moves. Please be civil in the comments,”
The couple welcomed their first child, Wesley Joseph Patterson, in May 2025. Claire also posted family photos on Dec. 4 from a seaside setting, writing, “Building memories and thanking God for every moment together,”
On the football side, Patterson’s spot with Miami is now settled. The Dolphins released Zane Gonzalez on an injury settlement Wednesday, ending the offseason competition and confirming Patterson as the team’s kicker for the 2026 NFL season.
Patterson, a seventh-round pick in the 2017 NFL draft, has bounced around the league over eight years, spending time with five teams before joining the Dolphins in Aug. 2025. He was elevated to the active roster on Sep. 29 after Jason Sanders’ injury, and on March 12 he re-signed with Miami on a $1,402,500 contract.
