As the Miami Dolphins navigate the 2026 offseason, they've already made some headline-grabbing moves, including the release of stars like Tyreek Hill and Bradley Chubb. With the rumor mill buzzing, Dolphins' general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan shared insights on these decisions ahead of the NFL Combine.
Sullivan, alongside new head coach Jeff Hafley, is at the helm of Miami's fresh regime following the departure of Chris Grier and Mike McDaniel. It seems the Dolphins are in a rebuilding phase, and Hafley addressed the decision to part ways with Hill, a dynamic receiver whose impact was undeniable. Despite his brilliance on the field, factors like injury concerns and age led to this tough call.
Sullivan praised Hill, acknowledging his exceptional contributions to the team. “Tyreek Hill is a marvelous player, truly one of a kind, with Hall of Fame potential.
We are very grateful for what he achieved here in Miami,” Sullivan stated. He explained that the salary cap situation, coupled with Hill's current injury and age, necessitated the move.
Hill, who had been a key player for four seasons, maintained professionalism throughout the process.
During his tenure, Hill formed an electrifying partnership with Tua Tagovailoa, amassing over 1,700 receiving yards in both 2022 and 2023. However, his production had recently declined, prompting the team to make this strategic decision.
Similarly, the Dolphins released star defensive lineman Bradley Chubb, who is expected to draw significant interest from other teams this offseason. Sullivan highlighted Chubb's contributions, noting his impressive 22 sacks with Miami. The decision to release Chubb was also driven by a need to "get younger and cheaper," as Sullivan put it.

Sullivan emphasized the importance of these moves for the team's future success, stating, “We need to get younger and cheaper, and these decisions were part of that strategy. Both players were outstanding during their time with the Dolphins, and we are thankful for their efforts.”
As the Dolphins look ahead, Sullivan and the team are focused on shaping a roster that can achieve sustained success in the coming years.
