Dolphins Facing Growing Heat Over $64M Deal

The Dolphins' fiscal strategy is in the spotlight as Zach Seiler's hefty contract sparks debate over value and performance amidst recent roster shakeups.

The Miami Dolphins have been busy this offseason, making significant changes to their roster by moving on from several veterans, particularly those with hefty price tags. One of the most notable moves was parting ways with Tua Tagovailoa, who would have been their most overpaid player had he stayed. But with Tua gone, the spotlight shifts to another player.

Enter Zach Sieler, a 30-year-old defensive tackle who has amassed 35.5 career sacks. Sieler is currently under a three-year, $64 million contract, making him the highest-paid player on the Dolphins' roster, according to an analysis by Bleacher Report's Brad Gagnon.

Sieler's contract is notable not just for its size but for its timing. His extension, which runs through the 2029 season, doesn't even kick in until 2027. While Sieler isn't lacking in skill, his production took a dip in 2025, with his sack total dropping to 5.5 after back-to-back 10-sack seasons in 2023 and 2024.

The Dolphins have a potential out, though. They can release Sieler as a post-June 1 cut in 2027, which would provide significant financial relief.

This flexibility means that while Sieler's deal is hefty, it's not crippling. However, his age and recent performance suggest he might not be part of Miami's long-term plans.

It's worth noting that if Tua, Tyreek Hill, or Bradley Chubb were still on the roster, they might have taken the title of most overpaid. But with the current lineup, Sieler stands out. He's a solid player, but the size of his contract raises eyebrows and concerns about whether the Dolphins are getting value for their investment.
