Dolphins Eye Pro Bowl Tight End in Major Roster Shake-Up

Despite a high-stakes roster overhaul, the Miami Dolphins could strike gold by adding veteran tight end David Njoku as a strategic offensive weapon.

The Miami Dolphins are shaking things up this offseason, diving into a major roster overhaul. Despite a hefty $100 million in dead cap space after parting ways with stars like Tua Tagovailoa, Tyreek Hill, and Bradley Chubb, they’ve managed to snag Malik Willis with a $67.5 million deal to lead their offense at quarterback.

Now, the Dolphins are on the hunt for more offensive weapons to support Willis. One name that’s popping up is Cleveland Browns Pro Bowl tight end David Njoku. CBS Sports’ Jordan Dajani has pegged Miami as the “perfect” landing spot for Njoku in free agency.

With Willis stepping into the spotlight as the new starting quarterback, Njoku could be just the versatile security blanket he needs. The Dolphins are working with limited cap space, so finding budget-friendly options is key. Fortunately, Njoku might fit the bill without breaking the bank.

At 30, Njoku brings experience but comes off a couple of injury-plagued seasons, playing only 12 games in 2025 and 11 in 2024. His recent stats-293 receiving yards and four touchdowns on 33 receptions-suggest he won’t command top dollar. Considering Dallas Goedert’s $7 million one-year deal with the Eagles, the Dolphins could likely offer Njoku a similar contract.

With a roster featuring De'Von Achane, Jaylen Waddle, Jalen Tolbert, Tutu Atwell, Malik Washington, and Greg Dulcich, the Dolphins are in dire need of more offensive firepower. Particularly at tight end, they need someone who can do more than just catch passes-someone who can truly anchor the position.

Njoku, with 4,062 receiving yards over his nine-year NFL career, could be the ideal free agent acquisition. He’d provide Willis with a reliable target, having spent years catching passes from a rotating cast of quarterbacks in Cleveland. This move could be a smart step in solidifying Miami’s offensive lineup.
