The quarterback carousel in the NFL is spinning once again, and this time, it's the Arizona Cardinals and Miami Dolphins who are looking to hop on. With Kyler Murray and Tua Tagovailoa's tenures winding down, both franchises are gearing up for a fresh start under center in 2026.
Trading these quarterbacks is the first order of business for both teams, but if deals don’t materialize, releasing them might be the next logical step. As the dust settles, the Dolphins will be left with Quinn Ewers, while the Cardinals have Jacoby Brissett as their primary option. This means both teams need to explore new avenues for a quarterback, whether through trades, free agency, or the draft.
Enter Malik Willis, the Green Bay Packers quarterback and soon-to-be free agent. According to USA TODAY's Nate Davis, Willis could be the perfect fit for both Miami and Arizona. Projected to command over $35 million annually on a two-year deal, Willis offers a tantalizing mix of potential and performance.
Willis, at 26, might remind fans of a young Justin Fields-full of raw talent but with limited on-field experience. Despite fewer reps than Fields, Willis impressed as a spot starter for the Packers, boasting a near-80% completion rate, six touchdowns, and no interceptions.
His 134.6 passer rating and ability to move with power make him an intriguing option. With Miami recently hiring GM Jon-Eric Sullivan and coach Jeff Hafley from Green Bay, the Dolphins could be a natural landing spot for Willis.
After a rocky start with the Tennessee Titans, Willis found his groove in Green Bay. Over 11 games, including three starts, he completed 78.7% of his passes for 972 yards and six touchdowns, adding 261 rushing yards and three more scores on the ground. His performance wasn’t just a flash in the pan; it was a showcase of his true potential.
While Willis isn't yet a proven starter, the market for his services is expected to be robust. Miami seems like a strong fit due to the existing connections with Hafley and Sullivan. However, Arizona, with its healthier cap space of $39.1 million compared to Miami's $3.1 million, shouldn't be counted out.
If we were to place a bet, Miami would be a thrilling destination for Willis, given the synergy with the new leadership. But don’t sleep on the Cardinals-they have the financial flexibility to make a compelling offer. Either way, Willis is set to be one of the most sought-after quarterbacks in this offseason's market.
