Dolphins DT Injuries Just Created A Big Chance For Zeke Biggers

With key players sidelined, the Dolphins look to Zeek Biggers to step up and demonstrate his readiness to fill the void on their defensive line.

The Miami Dolphins are heading into Saturday’s preseason matchup with the New York Giants minus two key names on the defensive line, and that absence is creating a real opening for Zeke Biggers and Jordan Phillips.

Kenneth Grant, last year’s first-round pick, will not play. Head coach Jeff Hafley said Grant is week-to-week.

Veteran Zach Sieler is also out, with Hafley saying he is day-to-day but unavailable this week. That leaves extra snaps on the table, and both second-year tackles are making the most of them.

Biggers, in particular, has turned heads. Hafley said Tuesday that the young lineman is showing he can handle more than one job up front, including work at defensive end.

"I think he is playing really well." Hafley said on Tuesday."

He is doing a good job at tackle, doing a good job in the run and pass, and he is giving us the flexibility to put him at defensive end. I think he has been one of the most consistent guys."

That kind of versatility matters, especially with the Giants coming to town for a joint practice on Thursday, where Biggers and Phillips are expected to have prominent roles. Phillips has also drawn praise for the way he finished last season, and both players have used the added practice reps to keep pushing forward.

Neither one is in the starting group yet, but that is not really the point right now. The Dolphins need reliable depth, and they have been chasing it for a couple of years. If Biggers and Phillips keep building, Hafley and his staff can keep focusing on the basics inside a system they are still installing.

For Miami, there is some obvious upside in knowing what Sieler already brings and expecting Grant to improve when he returns. But the bigger payoff may come from the edges of the depth chart.

Chris Grier took a major swing in the 2025 offseason by not adding free agents and letting others walk, then used three draft picks on defensive tackles. None of those picks produced over a full season.

That is why Biggers’ emergence stands out. Hafley clearly values technique and consistency, and Biggers appears to be fitting that mold. Even more encouraging for Miami, he has embraced the move to a true 3-4 defensive end role - something last year’s staff may not have seen as viable.

Dolphins Rookie Will Kacmarek Is Creating A New Offensive Question

The Dolphins came out of the 2026 draft with a pair of rookies who have already drawn good early reviews in camp and preseason, with tight end Will Kacmarek and wide receiver Caleb Douglas both making noise. For Miami, the more immediate intrigue has centered on Kacmarek, whose work in the preseason has suggested he can be more than a developmental name at the back end of the roster. His blocking has stood out, and for a team always looking for ways to keep the offense flexible, that alone makes him worth watching.

Kacmareks ability to handle the dirty work has started to open up a bigger question about how the Dolphins might use him if he keeps trending the same way. A tight end who can contribute as a run blocker and survive in protection can change the way an offense builds personnel groupings, especially in a system that values matchup advantages. Miami does not need to rush the answer, but Kacmarek has already made it difficult to ignore the possibilities. [Read more 🡒]

Tua Finally Opened Up About The Dolphins Move That Changed Everything

The offseason departure of Tua Tagovailoa marked one of the more jarring Dolphins storylines, especially after Miami moved on from him and brought in Malik Willis to fill the quarterback spot. Tagovailoa recently spoke publicly about how difficult the release was, and he said he leaned on advice from former coach Nick Saban as he processed the change.

Now with the Atlanta Falcons, Tagovailoa is trying to reset his career in a new environment while competing for the starting job. The opportunity brings a fresh path forward, but it also keeps his Miami exit in focus, especially for a Dolphins team that made a hard pivot at the most important position on the field. Zeek Biggers Is Suddenly In The Middle Of Miamis DT Battle

The Dolphins spent the 2025 draft adding three defensive tackles, bringing in Kenneth Grant, Jordan Phillips and Zeek Biggers as part of a clear effort to deepen the middle of the defense. Grant and Phillips arrived with the sort of profile that naturally draws attention, but Biggers has moved into a more visible role as training camp has unfolded, giving Miami another young body in a position group that is suddenly worth watching closely.

Biggers has started to separate himself because of the way he has fit into the mix, showing the kind of flexibility that can matter in a defense looking for answers up front. Miamis tackle room is still sorting out which players will claim the biggest jobs, and Biggers has become part of that conversation in a hurry, alongside two other rookies who are all trying to carve out a path to meaningful snaps.
