Dolphins Cut Tyreek Hill in Stunning Move to Save Millions

In a stunning shake-up, the Dolphins are parting ways with Tyreek Hill, signaling major roster and financial shifts amid uncertainty around several key players.

The Miami Dolphins are making major waves this offseason, and the biggest one yet? They're parting ways with All-Pro wide receiver Tyreek Hill.

Hill, an eight-time Pro Bowler and one of the most explosive playmakers of his generation, is being released by Miami in a move that clears $22.8 million in cap space. It’s a bold decision, no doubt, but also one that reflects the financial and physical realities facing both player and team.

Hill, who turns 32 in early March, is recovering from a torn ACL - a serious knee injury that casts uncertainty over his return timeline. For a player whose game has always been built on elite speed and suddenness, that kind of injury is no small hurdle. Until he's officially cut loose, nothing’s final, but once the Dolphins make it official, Hill will hit the open market as a free agent - and despite the injury, there’s bound to be interest from teams willing to bet on his recovery and résumé.

And what a résumé it is. Hill’s arrival in Miami was electric.

He posted back-to-back seasons of over 1,700 receiving yards, including an NFL-best 1,799 yards and 13 touchdowns in 2023. That version of Hill was virtually unguardable - a nightmare for defensive coordinators and a dream for quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

But 2024 told a different story. Hill’s production dipped to 959 yards, and while that’s still solid by most standards, it marked a sharp decline.

A lingering wrist injury didn’t help matters, and then came the devastating knee injury in Week 4 - a moment that effectively ended his season after just 265 yards and a touchdown through four games.

Miami’s decision to release Hill isn’t happening in a vacuum. This is part of a broader roster overhaul that’s already seen veteran pass rusher Bradley Chubb, offensive lineman James Daniels, and wideout Nick Westbrook-Ikhine shown the door. It’s clear the Dolphins are reshaping their identity - and fast.

Next up on the to-do list? Figuring out what to do with Tua.

The former top-five pick was benched late last season, and earlier this year he acknowledged he’d be open to a fresh start elsewhere. That’s a storyline worth watching closely, especially now that his top weapon is on the way out.

As for Hill, his next chapter is still unwritten. The injury clouds his immediate future, but his track record speaks volumes. If he can get back to anything close to his peak form, he’ll still be one of the most dangerous weapons in the league - and someone’s going to take that chance.
