There are plenty of NFL teams heading into 2026 with their quarterback situation settled. Josh Allen, Joe Burrow and others sit comfortably near the top of the league, and nobody is asking those teams to start over under center.
But plenty of other clubs are still searching, and that search can turn ugly fast. In a league where dependable quarterback play is at a premium, the margin for error is tiny. So instead of spotlighting the safest names, let’s flip the board and look at the quarterbacks most likely to get benched in 2026.
- Malik Willis, Miami Dolphins
Malik Willis landed with the Miami Dolphins on a multi-year deal in free agency this offseason after a strong run as the backup in Green Bay. The resume, though, is still thin. He has only 155 career passing attempts and six career touchdown passes, production some quarterbacks stack up in just a few games.
There is a path where Willis works out in Miami, but the situation doesn’t exactly scream long leash. Quinn Ewers is waiting in the wings, and that alone makes this arrangement feel more fragile than secure. The guaranteed money on Willis’ deal matters, but it doesn’t always keep a team from moving on.
Miami also projects to be one of the league’s worst teams this season as it starts a much-needed rebuild. That’s usually when clubs get restless and start making changes in search of something better.
- Jacoby Brissett, Arizona Cardinals
Jacoby Brissett now finds himself in a quarterback room with rookie Carson Beck, and that alone says a lot about where this is headed. Brissett has long been the dependable backup type - the guy who can step in, keep things afloat and maybe steal a few wins if needed. But a team only wants him starting for a stretch if the original plan has already gone sideways.
That’s exactly what happened in Arizona last season. Brissett started 12 games for the Cardinals in 2025 and went 1-11 in those outings.
The Cardinals are stuck in the NFL’s best division, and the clearest way out of the mess right now would seem to be Beck emerging as the long-term answer. If that doesn’t happen, Arizona could be staring at a top pick in the 2027 NFL Draft, which might finally put a franchise quarterback within reach. For now, though, the idea of Brissett playing all year doesn’t look like a solution for much of anything.

Dolphins May Finally Have A True WR1 Path In 2027
The Dolphins wide receiver room has lost a lot of its established punch since Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle moved on, and that has left Miami looking ahead for a cleaner path back to having a true No. 1 option. The 2027 free-agent market is starting to look like the kind of place where a team can reset its passing game, especially if a proven receiver shakes loose at just the right time.
Puka Nacua is among the names to watch, with George Pickens and Chris Olave also in the conversation if their situations line up the right way. Michael Wilson has even emerged as another possible option after his breakout in Arizona, which gives Miami a few different routes to explore, but each one depends on contract timing and health holding up between now and then. Miamis roster rebuild has left plenty of room for creative ideas, and cornerback depth remains one of the spots worth watching as the offseason moves along. A recent speculation piece from Moe Moton pointed to a familiar name as the kind of low-cost addition that can make sense for a team trying to patch holes without overcommitting, especially when there is still a need to fortify the secondary.
The appeal is easy to see on paper: a bargain-bin type of bet on a one-year prove-it deal, with enough upside to matter if the fit clicks.
