Beloved Florida Media Figure Tragically Dies At 59

Troy Aikmans heartfelt tribute to the late sports radio personality David Moulton on Monday Night Football brought the legendary quarterback and broadcaster to tears in a moving farewell.

Monday Night Football paused for something bigger than the game on Week 7’s Cowboys-Eagles matchup at Lincoln Financial Field, as ESPN honored longtime sports radio personality David Moulton during the fourth quarter.

Moulton, who had worked on Monday Night Football for the past several years, died over the weekend after a six-year battle with stage four renal cell cancer. He was 59.

The tribute clearly hit home for Troy Aikman, who had a long relationship with Moulton from their time together on FOX NFL coverage on Thursdays and Sundays. Aikman and Joe Buck took a moment on the broadcast to remember their colleague and friend, and Aikman became emotional during the segment.

Aikman had already shared a heartfelt message after learning of Moulton’s death, calling him his “right -hand man” and reflecting on the bond they built over the years.

“Since 2018, David Moulton has been my right-hand man in the broadcast booth,” Aikman wrote on Instagram. “What started as a professional relationship became a friendship I have cherished.

David was loyal, dependable and a warrior until the very end. He deserved better.

"My heart breaks for his family and all who loved him. I’m grateful for the years we shared and will miss him deeply. Rest in peace, big guy.”

Moulton’s wife, Julie, confirmed his death on Saturday with a statement shared to the Fort Myers News-Press. She said he died while in hospice care at the Douglas Center for Caring and described the depth of the family’s grief.

“It is with a completely shattered heart broken into a million pieces I share that my loving husband, David, died last night while in hospice care at the Douglas Center for Caring,” she wrote. “David battled stage four renal cell cancer for six long years.

It metastasized to his bones two years ago. He never stopped fighting or trying new treatments.

He loved life and loved each and every one of you more than words can express. We are so thankful for the love and support you all have given us.

“My sweet husband you are finally free of pain and with all our heavenly angels. Thank you for blessing us with the gift of you and for sharing your beautiful life with all of us.

Cherish every second and he did. Love you.”

The moment on ESPN made plain how much Moulton meant to the people around the booth.

Chargers Are Sliding Into The AFCs Biggest Early-Season Mess

The early AFC picture has already turned into a scramble, and Miami is watching it with a mix of recognition and opportunity. The updated conference rankings are stacked with clubs that expected to be much further along by now, from the winless Chargers to the Titans' ongoing questions and the Colts' front-office shake-up, while the Dolphins remain in the middle of their own reset with a roster still short on proven talent.

Miami's place in that conversation is a reminder that the rebuild is not just about long-term vision, but about surviving the weekly churn around them. There are signs the Dolphins can still find pockets of competence and keep themselves relevant, yet the broader issue remains the same: they need more difference-makers, and the next stretch will show whether this group can keep pace while the AFC's mess keeps getting messier. Dolphins Finally Escaped One Brutal Spot After Their First Win

The Dolphins first win of the season, a much-needed one over the New York Jets, at least changed the conversation around the team outside the building. After opening 1-5, Miami was still going to have an uphill climb in the national picture, but the latest wave of power rankings shows a modest step forward, with multiple outlets slotting the Dolphins anywhere from 26th to 31st.

It is a small victory in its own right that no major outlet still has Miami dead last, but the margin for comfort remains thin. The challenge gets steeper quickly with the New England Patriots next on the schedule, and the Dolphins will need more than one relief performance if they want to keep moving out of the leagues basement. Dolphins Can Change The Whole Feel Of This Season Sunday

The Dolphins finally got a win under Jon-Eric Sullivan and Jeff Hafley, and it came against the Jets in a game that at least gave the building something to hang onto. After a rocky stretch, even one victory can change the tone around a team, especially when it arrives with a new coaching staff trying to establish itself and get the roster pointed in a clearer direction.

Miami now gets a Patriots matchup that could carry more weight than a typical early-season divisional game. Another win would give the Dolphins a better feel for where they stand and add a little more credibility to the progress theyre trying to make, even if the bigger picture is still about development. It would also nudge the franchise further away from the very top of the 2027 NFL Draft conversation, which is the kind of backdrop teams rarely mention but always have in mind. [Read more 🡒]
