Bears OC Declan Doyle Backs Out as Eagles Eye New Top Candidate

As the Eagles' offensive coordinator search narrows, a rising NFL play-caller takes his name out of the mix, reshaping the field of contenders.

The Eagles’ search for a new offensive coordinator just got a little narrower. Declan Doyle, the Bears’ OC, has officially pulled his name from consideration, according to a report from Dianna Russini. That’s one intriguing young mind off the board for Philly - and a sign that the Eagles’ hunt is still very much in motion.

Doyle, just 30 years old, has been quietly rising through the NFL coaching ranks. He spent four seasons cutting his teeth with the Saints as an offensive assistant before taking over as tight ends coach in Denver for two years.

In 2025, he landed the offensive coordinator gig in Chicago under head coach Ben Johnson - and he made the most of it. The Bears’ offense cracked the top 10 in points scored, total yards, rushing yards, and passing yards.

That kind of balance doesn’t happen by accident. Doyle helped orchestrate a unit that could beat you in a lot of different ways.

Still, with Doyle stepping back, the Eagles are left sorting through a list that’s long on experience and full of interesting names. Here’s where things stand:

  • Matt Nagy, the former Chiefs OC, has already interviewed. He brings head coaching experience and plenty of familiarity with high-powered offenses.
  • Zac Robinson, currently the Falcons’ OC, is reportedly a candidate but also being considered by the Buccaneers.
  • **Charlie Weis Jr.

**, LSU’s OC, had been in the mix but has also withdrawn.

  • Mike Kafka, the Giants’ OC, has interviewed.

He’s a young coach with a quarterback background - something that could appeal to Philly given their investment in Jalen Hurts.

  • Jim Bob Cooter, the Colts’ OC, has had a request submitted for an interview.
  • Bobby Slowik, the Dolphins’ pass game coordinator, is still listed but remains with Miami.
  • Josh Grizzard, formerly the Buccaneers’ OC, has interviewed.
  • Brian Daboll, the former Giants head coach, has also interviewed. His name carries weight, and his offensive pedigree is well established.
  • Kliff Kingsbury, the former Commanders OC, is another name to watch. His schemes have always leaned toward the aggressive, pass-heavy side.
  • Frank Smith, previously the Dolphins’ OC, has gone through the interview process.
  • Jerrod Johnson, the Texans’ quarterbacks coach, is scheduled to meet with the team.

It’s a wide-ranging list, and the Eagles clearly aren’t limiting themselves to one type of candidate. From veteran play-callers like Nagy and Daboll to up-and-comers like Johnson and Robinson, Philly seems intent on casting a wide net.

That makes sense - this is a pivotal hire. The next OC will be tasked with getting the most out of a talented, but at times inconsistent, offense led by a franchise quarterback in Jalen Hurts.

With Doyle out of the running, the Eagles will have to look elsewhere for the right voice to guide that offense forward. The question now is: do they lean on experience, or take a swing on the next big thing? Either way, the search is heating up.
