Sunday’s matchup between the Denver Nuggets and Memphis Grizzlies was supposed to tip off at 3:30 p.m. EST, but Mother Nature had other plans.
A winter storm sweeping across the country hit Memphis hard, forcing the NBA to postpone the game at FedExForum. The league confirmed the decision, citing inclement weather in the area, and noted that a new date for the game will be announced later.
This isn’t just a minor scheduling hiccup-it’s a logistical headache. The Grizzlies already have the Houston Rockets on the calendar for Monday, and when you look ahead, it’s clear the Nuggets and Grizzlies don’t have a lot of overlap in their upcoming schedules. So while the league will eventually find a window to reschedule the game, it may not be anytime soon.
For Memphis, the delay might come with a silver lining. The Grizzlies are trying to shake off a two-game skid, and the unexpected breather gives them a little more time to regroup before facing the Rockets.
They’re still without Ja Morant, who’s sidelined with an elbow injury, and his absence continues to loom large. On top of that, trade chatter around Morant hasn’t quieted, adding another layer of uncertainty to a team trying to find its footing.
On the other side, the Nuggets are rolling. They’ve won two straight and currently sit in third place in the Western Conference standings.
Denver’s been playing like a contender all season long, and their recent form suggests they’re not slowing down anytime soon. They’ll shift their focus to Tuesday’s game against the Detroit Pistons, looking to keep the momentum going.
While the postponed game leaves a bit of a void in the Sunday slate, it also sets the stage for a future rematch between two teams on very different trajectories-one trying to stabilize, the other aiming to surge. When that game does get played, it’ll be worth the wait.
