Kings Stun Grizzlies as Westbrook and Achiuwa End Epic Losing Streak

Westbrook and Achiuwa shine as the Kings finally snap their historic losing streak with a decisive win over the Grizzlies.

In a thrilling showdown in Memphis, the Sacramento Kings finally broke free from their 16-game slump, securing a 123-114 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies. This win marks a significant moment for the Kings, who have been struggling this season.

Russell Westbrook was on fire, dropping 25 points, while Precious Achiuwa delivered a double-double with 22 points and 12 rebounds. DeMar DeRozan and Daeqwon Plowden also made their presence felt, each contributing 20 points. Plowden's 10 points in the fourth quarter were crucial in sealing the deal for Sacramento.

Despite holding the NBA’s worst record and not tasting victory since mid-January against Washington, the Kings showed resilience. They faced a tough Memphis squad led by Javon Smalls, who put up 21 points and nine assists. Olivier-Maxence Prosper and GG Jackson added 17 and 16 points, respectively, to the Grizzlies' efforts.

The Grizzlies briefly took control early in the third quarter, but Sacramento responded with an impressive 18-6 run, establishing the game’s first double-digit lead. Heading into the fourth quarter, the Kings held a narrow 92-89 lead but widened the gap with a 15-4 burst, highlighted by a clutch 3-pointer from Westbrook.

Both teams have been navigating choppy waters due to injuries, forcing them to adapt on the fly. Memphis, sitting 11th in the Western Conference, has been particularly affected, with eight players sidelined for this matchup.

The Kings took a slim 63-61 lead into halftime, shooting over 54% from the field. Sacramento's height advantage was evident, with Achiuwa dominating the boards in the first half.

Next up, the Kings are headed to Houston on Wednesday night, looking to build on this momentum.
