Grizzlies Fans Just Got More Reason To Watch Trey Murphy III

As the Memphis Grizzlies savor their perfect start to the season, Ty Jerome's playful pursuit of Trey Murphy III hints at strategic ambitions and burgeoning trade rumors.

Ty Jerome added a little fuel to the Trey Murphy III chatter on Friday, and he did it with a wink.

After the New Orleans Pelicans shared a photo dump on Instagram, the Memphis Grizzlies guard jumped into the comments and joked, “streets said you coming to the grizz,” under Murphy’s post.

It was a lighthearted line, but it landed at a time when Murphy’s name is already floating around the trade market. Memphis has opened the 2026-27 season undefeated, and Jerome’s comment only gave the rumor mill another jolt.

Murphy has been tied to trade speculation for a while, though New Orleans has shown no real appetite to move him. The Pelicans still view the forward as a key piece of what they’re building, and it would take a major offer to get them to even consider dealing him.

His early-season numbers have also shifted. Murphy averaged 21.5 points per game last year, but that number is down to 14.2 points per game so far this season. He’s also taking about four fewer shots and trying two fewer 3-pointers per game.

Even with the dip in volume, Murphy has shown he can still erupt when the chances are there. He put up 26 points against the Denver Nuggets on 17 shots, a reminder of the scoring punch he can bring when he stays aggressive.

The quieter role has only fed the outside noise, especially with New Orleans getting healthier and adding more bodies to the rotation. But it’s still early, and the Pelicans are working through a new offense and new responsibilities.

Kings Desperately Need A Break As Injury Questions Loom In Memphis

The Kings head into Saturdays matchup in Memphis still searching for their first win, and the road trip is not getting any easier. Sacramento is already 0-5 and will be down four key players again, including Keegan Murray and Ben Simmons, when it meets the undefeated Grizzlies in a late-afternoon tip at 5:00 p.m. PT.

Memphis, meanwhile, has its own injury uncertainty to monitor. The Grizzlies listed Ty Jerome and Scotty Pippen Jr. as questionable, leaving a little bit of suspense around a game that already carries a lopsided feel on paper. For Sacramento, the challenge is obvious: survive the trip, stay competitive and hope the availability picture shifts before the ball goes up. [Read more 🡒]

Grizzlies Face A Bigger Concern Than Sacramento Before Key Test

The Grizzlies are heading into their next meeting with Sacramento with more than the opponent to monitor. Ty Jerome, Scotty Pippen Jr. and Quinten Post are all on the injury report, leaving Memphis with real uncertainty in the backcourt and up front as game time approaches. Jerome is dealing with upper back soreness, Pippen with lower back soreness and Post with a right ankle sprain, and all three will be evaluated closer to tipoff.

For a Memphis team trying to keep its footing in a key test, the timing matters as much as the names. Jerome has been the clubs most productive scorer and was central in the earlier win over the Kings, so his status in particular looms large, but the Grizzlies may not know their full rotation until the final availability report comes in. Cam Boozers Start Has Grizzlies Fans Dreaming Bigger Than Expected

Cameron Boozers first week-plus in Memphis has already given the Grizzlies something they rarely get this early in a season: a rookie who looks like he belongs in the center of everything. The forward has been a major part of the teams 5-0 start, and the way he has blended production with poise has quickly turned him from a promising addition into one of the biggest reasons the Grizzlies have opened with so much momentum.

Boozers fifth career game was the one that really jolted the conversation, because it showed just how far his ceiling might stretch if this start is any indication. Memphis does not need to rush the story, but it is hard to ignore how quickly Boozer has pushed himself into rare company while helping the Grizzlies win at a pace that has fans thinking bigger than they probably expected in October.
