The Grizzlies kept rolling Saturday, and Cam Spencer was right in the middle of it.
With Ty Jerome and Scotty Pippen Jr. sidelined by back issues, Spencer got his first start of the season and helped Memphis cruise past the Kings 136-105 to improve to 6-0. In 25 minutes, he put up 10 points, five rebounds and 13 assists without a single turnover.
That kind of clean playmaking stands out anywhere, but it had extra weight here: no Grizzlies player had posted 13-plus assists with zero turnovers since Tyus Jones did it in March 2023. Jones had 13 points, 14 assists and no turnovers in a win over Golden State while Ja Morant was serving a suspension.
Spencer has built his reputation as a shooter, but Saturday was another reminder that he can do more than space the floor. He handled the offense with poise, made the right reads and kept the ball moving without giving possessions away. Over his last three games, he’s totaled 26 assists and just one turnover, one of the best passing stretches of his career.
That sort of distribution isn’t completely new for him. Spencer reached 13 assists three times last season and finished the year with a career-high 5.6 assists per game.
Before Memphis took him with the 53rd pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, he averaged 14.3 points and 3.6 assists as a senior at UConn during the national championship run. Across 132 games at Loyola, Rutgers and UConn, he averaged 14.2 points and 3.3 assists while shooting 46.8 percent from the field and 41.7 percent from three.
Even with that résumé, scouts had questions before the draft. At 24, he was viewed as an older prospect with a shaky handle, one of the slower sprint times at the combine and doubts about whether he could stay in front of NBA guards. Most teams saw him as an elite shooter first and foremost, not someone who could regularly steer an NBA offense.
On Saturday, he looked plenty comfortable doing exactly that.
And Spencer wasn’t the only Grizzlies reserve who delivered in the franchise-tying sixth straight win to open the season. Cameron Boozer scored a career-high 27 points and grabbed nine rebounds, Isaiah Stewart added a season-high 24 points on 8-of-9 shooting, and GG Jackson went 5 for 5 from three on his way to 21.
Memphis’ bench finished with 81 points, a huge number even with three key rotation pieces out and some players pushed into bigger roles. The Grizzlies are now 6-0, 2-0 at home and 4-0 on the road, and they’ve outscored opponents by better than 15 points per game.
Next up is New Orleans, with Memphis set to host the 2-4 Pelicans at FedExForum on Monday night.

Ty Jeromes Breakout Couldnt Hide A Grizzlies Problem Late
Ty Jerome gave Memphis everything it could have asked for in a wild overtime loss to New Orleans, pouring in 40 points and helping erase a late deficit with a 9-0 burst that forced the extra period. For a night, his scoring punch looked like the kind of lift that can cover a lot of flaws, and it nearly carried the Grizzlies through a game that swung back and forth until the very end.
But the first loss of the season also exposed how thin the margin can be when Memphis is chasing from behind. The Grizzlies were left to sort through the frustration of a one-point defeat in a game that got chippy after the final horn, with an altercation involving Isaiah Stewart and the Pelicans bench requiring coaches to step in and calm things down. Isaiah Stewart Gave The Grizzlies A Swagger Boost They Needed
The Grizzlies have opened the 2026-27 season with six straight wins, and they were looking to keep the run alive against the Pelicans with another sharp, confident start. In a first half that could have gone either way, Isaiah Stewart gave Memphis a jolt off the bench, bringing energy on both ends and helping the group settle in against a New Orleans team that had early momentum.
Stewarts biggest moment came on a block that changed the feel of the game, the kind of play that can lift a home crowd and steady a bench unit at the same time. He added five points, two rebounds and two blocks in just 10 first-half minutes, a compact line that fit the tone Memphis has carried through its unbeaten start. [Read more 🡒]
Cameron Boozer Is Giving Grizzlies Fans A Reason To Dream Big
Cameron Boozer has given Memphis an electric opening to his NBA career, and the Grizzlies have ridden that burst to an unbeaten start. The rookie has been a major reason the team has looked so composed so early, with his blend of production and poise standing out even as other young Grizzlies have chipped in around him.
Boozers early stretch has already put him in rare company, both for the pace of his production and for the way he has impacted winning right away.
