The Maryland high school football playoff picture is here, and the latest High School On SI Top 25 comes with a fresh face near the bottom and a notable shakeup near the top.
Charles H. Flowers enters the rankings at No. 22 as the state public playoffs get underway this weekend.
The Jaguars are the No. 1 seed in the Class 4A South Region after Henry A. Wise was forced to forfeit four wins late last week, including its Sept. 28 win over Flowers, because of a violation of MPSSAA and Prince George’s County athletic rules.
Those forfeits pushed Wise, which had been No. 11, out of the Top 10. Even with the drop, the Pumas are still viewed as a team capable of making a run to the Maryland 4A state final at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in early December.
At the top, the order stays the same: Saint Frances Academy is No. 1, with DeMatha Catholic, Archbishop Spalding, Quince Orchard and McDonogh School rounding out the top five. The second five features Oakdale, Mergenthaler Vocational-Technical, Linganore, Huntingtown and Sherwood.
Several teams are also launching title defenses this weekend, including Quince Orchard in 4A, Linganore in 3A and No. 12 Paul Laurence Dunbar in 2A/1A.

Maryland's New-Look Opener Gave Terps Fans A Reason To Dream
Maryland opened its 2026-27 basketball season with a lopsided 96-67 win over Bucknell, a result that did more than just extend a streak. It gave the Terps their highest-scoring season opener since 2010 and pushed their run of opening-night victories to 13 straight, a strong first step in a year that already carries extra meaning as the program marks the 25th anniversary of its 2002 national championship.
Andre Mills set the tone for the new-look Terps, finishing with 22 points and 11 rebounds in a performance that helped make the opener feel less like a tune-up and more like an early statement. For Maryland fans, it was the kind of debut that invites bigger questions about how far this group can go, even if there is still plenty of season left to answer them. [Read more 🡒]
Andre Mills Helped Maryland Answer An Early Concern Fast
Marylands slow start against Bucknell could have lingered as a concern, but Andre Mills helped make sure it didnt last long. The Terrapins settled in and rolled to a 96-67 win, with Mills providing the kind of inside production that steadied the offense while Kaden House chipped in 14 points and two steals.
By the second half, Maryland had turned the game into the sort of comfortable finish that can matter early in the season, especially after an opening stretch that looked a little shaky. The Terrapins answered the initial concern quickly and then kept stretching the margin, leaving the bigger question now on how much of that early response can carry into the next step up in competition. Maryland Fans Got One Big Reason For Hope On Both Sides
Marylands basketball season opened with a split that still gave fans plenty to feel better about. The women went to France and pushed No. 1 South Carolina before falling by eight, a result that looked far more competitive than the matchup on paper, while the men came home and handled Bucknell in their opener with a comfortable win.
The encouraging part for Maryland was the way both teams found immediate help from new faces. On the womens side, Addi Mack gave the Terps a jolt in the season opener, and on the mens side, freshman Baba Oladotun made his first impression off the bench in a game that never got away from Maryland. For a program trying to build momentum on both sides, that kind of early production is exactly the sort of sign that can carry real weight. [Read more 🡒]
