Concordia Prep is back in the Maryland high school football Top 25, and the timing fits the moment. With the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference race starting to tighten, the Saints enter the rankings at No. 20 after knocking off then-No. 17 Mount Saint Joseph, 13-7, last weekend.
That win made Concordia the sixth MIAA A Conference team to show up in the Top 25 this season, and it did not buy them much time to settle in. Friday brings another major challenge: a trip to Archbishop Spalding, the four-time defending league champion.
At the top of the rankings, Saint Frances Academy stays at No. 1 nationally, with DeMatha Catholic, Archbishop Spalding, McDonogh School and Quince Orchard behind the Panthers. Linganore, Our Lady of Good Counsel, Henry A. Wise, Calvert Hall College and Mergenthaler Vocational-Technical complete the Top 10.
The week also includes another important MIAA A Conference matchup, as Calvert Hall heads to McDonogh. On the public-school side, No.
22 Winston Churchill visits No. 5 Quince Orchard in a meeting of teams with plenty on the line, including the two-time defending Maryland Class 4A state champion.
