Maryland native Jamaal McKnight Jr. is heading to another new stop for his senior season.
The four-star guard, who started his high school career at DeMatha Catholic High School in the WCAC and spent last season at Long Island Lutheran High School, is transferring to Iowa United Prep in Des Moines, Iowa, according to an Instagram post.
“We are thrilled to welcome Jamaal McKnight Jr to the Iowa United family! Looking forward to an incredible year ahead!!,” Iowa United Prep wrote on July 13.
McKnight, who runs with Team Durant on the AAU circuit, is a four-star point guard and has also cut his college list to seven schools.
Iowa United Prep will now be led by Keith Smart, the former NBA guard and 1987 NCAA championship hero, who takes over the program after working as an assistant at Arkansas and with several NBA franchises.
McKnight wasn’t the only DMV name making recruiting noise.
His AAU teammate, Jymin Veney, a rising senior point guard at St. John’s College High School in Washington, DC, has also narrowed his college options to seven schools.
Veney put together a strong junior season for the Cadets, helping them to a 26-8 record and a 10-3 mark in the WCAC. He earned first team all-conference honors.
“There was a ton of moments where he carried us,” said Bethel Academy’s Head Boys Basketball Coach and Director of Basketball Azhar Shamsudeen, who coached Veney at St. John’s College High School last season.
Veney also had one of his biggest moments against Jackson-Reed, where he posted a triple-double with 10 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists against the Washington, DC public school basketball program.
“He's going to have a really, really good senior year,” said Shamsudeen. “This year he's got a chance to be one of the best players in the area.”
Another Class of 2027 DMV prospect, Clinton Grace Christian School’s Lonnie Lyons, has trimmed his list to eight schools: Syracuse, Butler, VCU, Maryland, Tennessee, Georgetown, Washington and Virginia.
Lyons is a 6-foot-3-inch guard, a four-star prospect, and another Team Takeover standout.
St. James Performance Academy in Springfield, Virginia, is also adding to its roster for the 2026-27 campaign with Division I prospects Christian Proctor, Isaiah Carpenter and Makiah Gray.
Proctor is a 6-foot-7-inch small forward who plays for Team Durant and spent last season at Long Island Lutheran High School in Brookville, New York. A Washington, DC native, he began his high school career at DeMatha Catholic High School in Hyattsville, Maryland.
Carpenter has Division I offers from Morehead State, American, UTSA, Towson, UMass Lowell, Tennessee Tech and St. Bonaventure.
Gray, a 6-foot point guard who also plays for Team Durant, spent last season at Bethel Academy and already has offers from UMBC and Alcorn State, among others.

Maryland-Area Standout Just Put Herself In Rare Wrestling Company
Taina Fernandez has been carving out a place in Maryland wrestling history for a while, but her latest trip abroad pushed her into rarer air. The Archbishop Spalding standout captured her third straight U17 World freestyle wrestling title at the National Gymnastics Arena in Baku, Azerbaijan, while also helping Team USA claim the U17 womens team championship.
Fernandez did it in emphatic fashion, pinning every opponent on her way through the bracket, and the result put her in a class all her own as the first non-Japanese female wrestler to complete that three-peat.
