COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Maryland is set to clash with 9th-seeded Iowa in the Big Ten Tournament's second round at the United Center. After a commanding win over Oregon, the Terps are riding high into this matchup.
Tip-off is at 12:00 PM ET (11:00 AM CT), with the game available on Peacock. Legendary Voice of the Terps Johnny Holliday will bring the action to life on the Maryland Sports Radio Network alongside Chris Knoche.
The season series between these two squads was a tale of home-court advantage. Maryland took the latest victory 77-70 in College Park, thanks to standout performances from Andre Mills and Diggy Coit.
This marks the first time Maryland and Iowa face off in the Big Ten Tournament, adding an extra layer of intrigue to the contest.
Maryland's defense was a fortress in their last outing, holding Iowa without a field goal for the first 11:14 and limiting the Ducks to just 12 points in the first half. That defensive prowess was reminiscent of their 1982 ACC Quarterfinals performance against NC State.
#MillsMafia
Andre Mills has been lighting it up recently, averaging 20.3 points over the last nine games. His shooting has been stellar, hitting 45.3% from the floor and 39.4% from three-point range.
Over the last 14 games, he's been Maryland's go-to guy, averaging 17.5 points per game and showcasing his scoring ability with career-highs like 39 points at Northwestern and 30 against No. 11 Illinois.
Mills' 39-point game tied the record for the most by a Maryland freshman since Diamond Stone's performance in 2015. It was a historic feat, marking just the fourth time a Terp freshman has surpassed 30 points since 1994. His clutch play earned him Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors, especially after his 21-point game against Washington.
He's in elite company, joining Joe Smith as the only Maryland freshmen with multiple 30-point games in a season. Alongside Illinois' Keaton Wagler, Mills is one of only two Big Ten freshmen with this achievement.
Diggy, Diggy, Diggy Can't You See ...
Diggy Coit has been putting up numbers that seem straight out of a video game. Twice this season, he's hit the 40-point mark, including a career-high 43 points against Penn State, setting an XFINITY Center record. That performance was just shy of Ernie Graham's single-game record from 1978.
Coit also dropped 41 against Mount St. Mary's, making him only the second player in Maryland history to score 40 or more points twice in a season, alongside Gene Shue. His 43-point game included tying the program record for single-game three-pointers.
Among active NCAA players, Coit is one of just three with multiple 40-point games this season, joining an exclusive club with Treysen Eaglestaff and Dior Johnson. He's the only Big Ten player with this feat and the first since Purdue's Carsen Edwards in 2018-19.
Solo Making An Impact
Solomon Washington has been a crucial addition since returning from injury. In his 24 games, he's averaged 10.1 points and 9.0 rebounds, providing a steady veteran presence.
Washington made his season debut against Wagner, posting 10 points and six rebounds. He recorded his first double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds against Old Dominion, showing his knack for crashing the boards.
He strung together three consecutive double-doubles against Rutgers, Northwestern, and Washington, each time posting 11 points and 14 rebounds. Washington is on track to average a double-double for the season, a feat achieved only 23 times in Maryland's storied history.
