Ole Miss had every reason to lean on Kewan Lacy again this season, but the junior’s availability keeps turning into the storyline. After already dealing with a nagging injury during the College Football Playoff and not finishing the opener against Louisville, Lacy went down again Saturday night against LSU and left with a shoulder issue.
The hit came when Lacy landed hard on his right shoulder while being tackled by LSU. He looked uncomfortable as he made his way toward the locker room, and after medical staffers checked on him, he was seen heading back inside.

The injury appears to be separate from the thigh bruise that limited him in Ole Miss’ season-opening win over Louisville. That earlier issue already kept him from finishing that game, and now the Rebels are waiting on another update.
Ole Miss quickly adjusted after Lacy exited, turning to the air far more than the ground. In the first 12 snaps after he left, the Rebels called 10 passes and only two runs.
The depth behind Lacy is a concern, too. Ole Miss lists Makhi Frazier, the Michigan State transfer, behind him, with JT Lindsey third. Frazier was on the injury report this week with an undisclosed issue, and he wasn’t the first running back to get a touch after Lacy left.
That carry went to JT Lindsey, a redshirt freshman who began his career at LSU before transferring to Ole Miss last offseason. Lindsey entered Saturday with just eight career carries.
Lacy, once projected as a Heisman Trophy candidate, is still trying to get through a season without the injuries becoming the story. For now, Ole Miss is hoping his latest setback doesn’t keep him out long.
