Ole Miss didn’t just beat LSU on Saturday night in Oxford. The Rebels turned Lane Kiffin’s return into a scene, and the final image was every bit as sharp as the score.
Ole Miss held on for a 32-24 win, with Trinidad Chambliss throwing for 363 yards and accounting for three total scores. LSU erased a 24-7 deficit and tied the game at 24 before Chambliss put the Rebels back ahead. Sam Leavitt’s late throw then died in the end zone, and the stadium let loose as Kiffin made his way toward the tunnel.

By the time Kiffin was headed out, extra troopers had lined the sideline and fences were set around the LSU buses. Fans booed him coming in and going out. Oxford had been waiting for this kind of scene for months, and Perkins delivered the quietest, coldest version of it.
Kiffin later said the night hit him harder than he expected. He talked about six years and hard times, then shifted right back into his usual style.
“The stadium is full an hour early,” he said. “I guess I had to leave to get them to do that.
So, you’re welcome.”
Vaught-Hemingway drew a record crowd of 70,033, with the PA playing “Callin’ Baton Rouge” and the band going after “Neck.” Kiffin’s remote GameDay appearance had already sounded like a heel promo, and the atmosphere only grew louder from there.
For Ole Miss, the game ended with Chambliss on top and Kiffin on the wrong side of the tunnel. For Oxford, the clip that will last is Perkins in Kiffin’s path, troopers in the middle, and neither man saying a word.
