As the Mardi Gras festivities wind down, LSU Sports has been anything but idle. Here’s a comprehensive look at the Tigers' action-packed performances post-break.
Baseball: A Strong Start
Over at Alex Box Stadium, the reigning national champions have burst out of the gates with an impressive 5-0 record. They've been on a scoring spree, outpacing their last three opponents 63-23, and securing three of those victories via the mercy rule.
The Tigers are now setting their sights on the Jax College Baseball Classic in Jacksonville, where they’ll face Indiana, Notre Dame, and UCF. It's a promising start for a team with high expectations.
Softball: Facing Challenges
Switching gears to Tiger Park, Head Coach Beth Torina’s softball squad has experienced a rollercoaster start. Competing in the Clearwater Invitational, they managed a win against Oklahoma State but stumbled against #11 Nebraska, #22 Duke, and #6 UCLA.
Despite a mid-week victory over South Alabama, there are concerns as they approach the Purple and Gold Classic. Coach Torina addressed the media, saying, “We don’t have it figured out.
We’re trying to grow and face some adversity here early and learn through it, and hopefully we’ll be better suited to tackle adversity as it comes later in the season.”
Women’s Basketball: Seeking Redemption
On the hardwood, Kim Mulkey’s team is eager to bounce back from a Valentine’s Day defeat to South Carolina. The Tigers are on the road against the #17 ranked Ole Miss Rebels and will return to Baton Rouge for a matchup with Missouri on Sunday. It's a pivotal moment for the team to regain momentum.
Men’s Basketball: Breaking the Streak
For the men’s team, led by Matt McMahon, the focus is on ending a five-game losing streak. They face a tough challenge against #25 Alabama this Saturday, especially with the absence of DJ Thomas Jr. It’s a crucial game for the Tigers to regain their footing.
Gymnastics: A High-Stakes Rematch
LSU Gymnastics is gearing up for a rematch of the Collegiate Quad. The Tigers are heading to Norman to take on Oklahoma, fresh off a conference victory over Auburn with scores of 198.325-196.825. It’s another chance to showcase their talent on a big stage.
Soccer: International Call-Ups
On the soccer front, three Tigers have been called up to their respective national teams. Ida Hermanssdottir will represent Iceland in the 2027 World Cup qualifiers against Spain and England.
Sydney Cheesman joins the U.S. under-23 team, while Sariyah Bailey heads to the U.S. under-19 national team. Notably, Bailey’s call-up is a first for an active LSU soccer player to join the national ranks.
With so much happening across the board, LSU sports fans have plenty to cheer for as the Tigers continue to make their mark in various arenas.
