LSU Spring Scuffles Reveal Bigger Team Shift

Amidst LSU's spring practice scuffles, Lane Kiffin focuses on fundamentals and fostering team unity as new players integrate into the roster.

Baton Rouge Buzz: Lane Kiffin's Back-to-Basics Approach at LSU's Spring Practice

Spring practice is in full swing at LSU, and new head coach Lane Kiffin is taking it back to basics. Known for his strategic mindset, Kiffin is applying the same foundational approach he honed during his time at Ole Miss and other coaching stops. This spring, it’s about instilling discipline and unity among the Tigers, starting with something as fundamental as avoiding fights on the field.

During the team’s fourth spring practice, Kiffin shared his insights: "As a coach, you don’t expect everything to be perfect right away. It’s part of the process.

Today, we had no fights, unlike the six we saw the other day. Teaching them not to fight is crucial."

With over 50 new faces joining the squad, thanks to the transfer portal and early high school enrollees, this spring marks a pivotal period for players to catch the eye of the new coaching staff and secure their spots for the fall season. It’s a time of adjustment, and naturally, tensions can run high.

Running back Harlem Berry offered a relatable perspective on the occasional skirmishes: "There’s no real beef. We’re all brothers out there.

It gets competitive, and sometimes emotions run a bit wild. It’s about learning to manage that."

Senior transfer defensive end Princewill Umanmielen echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of passion over conflict: "Fights aren’t something we encourage. We love the passion everyone shows-protecting the team and their side of the ball. That’s the energy we want, just without the fighting."

As the Tigers continue their spring journey, Kiffin’s emphasis on fundamentals and team cohesion sets the stage for a promising season ahead. The focus remains on building a strong, united front that’s ready to tackle the challenges of the upcoming season.
