LSU has put the NFL eligibility drama to bed for now, and the roster move makes the decision pretty clear.
According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, the Tigers are adding defensive end Gabriel Reliford and cornerback Aidan Anding back onto the roster. That pushes LSU’s total to 105 and shuts the door on any chance of Dae'Quan Wright and Zxavian Harris joining the team this season.
Reliford and Anding both missed the season after suffering injuries in spring practice. Reliford tore his ACL, while Anding tore his Achilles. Because of those injuries, neither player was included on LSU’s original fall camp roster, but both are now officially listed on the school’s website.
The timing matters. On Tuesday, it was announced that the SEC’s lawsuit against LSU could potentially lead to the conference expelling the Tigers entirely if the program officially rostered players who had previously signed professional contracts. LSU clearly decided that risk - and whatever punishment might follow - wasn’t worth it for the chance to add Wright and Harris.
That call also fits with what LSU already showed in its 51-10 win over Clemson in the season opener. As currently built, the Tigers already look like a title contender, and Wright and Harris apparently didn’t offer enough of a boost to justify the danger of any future consequences.
So LSU chose the safer path, and the focus now shifts fully to a national title push in the first year under Lane Kiffin.
