LSU Recruiting Takes A Hit At Running Back Again

LSU's recruiting strategy faces a new challenge as three-star running back Brennen Lacey reconsiders his college choice, despite the Tigers having strong commitments from higher-ranked prospects.

LSU’s 2027 recruiting class took a hit Thursday when three-star running back Brennen Lacey announced on X that he was backing off his verbal pledge to the Tigers.

Lacey, a Frisco, Texas, product, committed to LSU in June after taking an official visit to Baton Rouge. In his message, he directed the note to LSU running backs coach Kevin Smith and the rest of the staff, beginning with gratitude for the opportunity and the relationship built during the process.

“I want to begin by thanking you and the entire coaching staff at LSU for believing in me and giving me the incredible opportunity to play football at the next level. I am truly grateful for the time, energy and relationship we have built throughout my recruitment process,” He began.

He then made the change official.

“After a lot of thought, prayers, and deep conversations with my family, I have decided to withdraw my verbal commitment to LSU and reopen my recruitment,” Lacey wrote.

The 5-foot-11, 190-pound back is rated by 247Sports.com as the No. 29 running back in the 2027 class and the No. 61 recruit in Texas. The composite rankings place him at No. 505 overall, No. 33 among running backs and No. 62 in Texas.

Even after Lacey’s decision, LSU still has two four-star running backs committed in the class. David Segarra, a 5-foot-10, 205-pound back from Byrnes High School in Duncan, South Carolina, is ranked No. 133 overall and No. 6 nationally at his position. Trey Martin, a 5-10, 202-pound product of Franklin Parish, is ranked No. 220 overall, No. 13 among running backs and No. 8 in Louisiana.

LSU’s class now stands at 15 commitments and is ranked No. 11 nationally.

LSU Tightens Game Day Rules After Ugly Scene Around Tiger Stadium

LSU is tightening its game-day approach after a brawl broke out around Tiger Stadium during homecoming and required police intervention. In response, the university announced enhanced crowd-control measures meant to keep Saturdays safer and more orderly for everyone coming to campus, with president Wade Rousse making clear that disruptive behavior will not be tolerated.

The new policies include increased patrols, clearer lines on what counts as acceptable tailgating and tougher consequences for violations. For a program that treats game day as part celebration, part showcase, the goal is to preserve the atmosphere without letting it spill into the kind of scene that forced security and law enforcement to step in. LSU Passing Game Faces A New Twist With TreyDez Green Returning

TreyDez Green is poised to rejoin LSUs offense for the upcoming game against Auburn after missing time since Week 3 with a knee injury, giving the passing game another layer it has not had in recent weeks. His return comes after Jackson Harris stepped into a bigger role and quickly became quarterback Sam Leavitts top target, emerging as the team leader in receiving yards and touchdowns while giving the Tigers a reliable option in the middle of the field.

Harris, a redshirt junior transfer from Hawaii, has earned the staffs trust during Greens absence and is expected to be available despite a recent ankle injury. For LSU, the timing creates an interesting adjustment point: the Tigers suddenly have more than one pass-catching threat to sort through, and how they balance Greens return with Harriss momentum could shape the way the offense looks going forward. LSU Has One Extra Reason This Auburn Game Feels Personal

Malik Blocton is set for a familiar walk back into Jordan-Hare Stadium, only this time in LSU colors after two seasons at Auburn. The defensive linemans move gave the Tigers another piece up front, and he has already started to make an impact in Baton Rouge with tackles and sacks while settling into a different system under defensive line coach Kevin Peoples.

For LSU, Bloctons return adds a little extra edge to a game that already carries plenty of SEC weight. The Tigers are chasing an SEC Championship bid, and keeping the defensive front productive will matter in a big way against Auburn, especially with Blocton facing the program he left not long ago.
