Morgan Freeman is headed to Oxford for one of the biggest stages in college football.
ESPN announced Thursday that Freeman will be the celebrity guest picker for Saturday’s edition of “College GameDay,” which will broadcast live from The Grove before No. 7 LSU meets No.
8 Ole Miss. It will be Freeman’s first time on the show.
A Mississippi native and longtime Ole Miss supporter, Freeman is already a familiar face around Rebels athletics. The Academy Award and Golden Globe winner was also honored by the university with its Honorary Alumni Award in 2025, given to people who did not graduate from Ole Miss but have shown major support and service to the school.
Saturday’s show gives Ole Miss its third turn hosting College GameDay. The first came in 2014, when Katy Perry served as the guest picker and Ole Miss went on to upset No.
1 Alabama. The show returned to The Grove in 2021, with then-Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin making the pick.
Now Kiffin is back on the other sideline.
He returns to Oxford as LSU’s head coach after leading Ole Miss from 2020 through the 2025 regular season. The game itself carries some rare company: it will be the first AP Top 10 matchup between LSU and Ole Miss since 1962. It also puts Kiffin in a spot only one other head coach has reached in AP Poll history, as he becomes just the second to face a Top 10 opponent he coached the previous season.
College GameDay will air from The Grove from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. CT on ESPN, ESPNU, Disney+ and the ESPN App.
LSU and Ole Miss will kick off at 6:30 p.m. CT Saturday at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.
