LSU May Be Getting TreyDez Green Back Sooner Than Expected

Lane Kiffin's latest update suggests Trey'Dez Green's return from injury could be sooner than expected, offering hope to an LSU team eager for his on-field impact.

LSU may be getting Trey’Dez Green back sooner than expected, but for now the tight end is still working his way back from the knee injury he suffered in Week 3 against Ole Miss.

That setback came after Green put together four catches for 60 yards in Oxford, and it’s kept him out ever since. He won’t be available this weekend in Lexington, but there’s at least some encouraging movement behind the scenes.

Lane Kiffin said Green is out of the knee brace now and continuing to progress, though LSU still doesn’t have a set return date.

“If there’s anybody that’s going to come back sooner than maybe what people thought, it would be him,” Kiffin said. “He’s out of the brace and moving it… getting closer.”

Green’s absence matters because he had become one of LSU’s most dangerous weapons in 2025. As a sophomore, he hauled in 33 passes for 433 yards and seven touchdowns, carving out a major role as a red-zone target. Getting him back would give the Tigers another layer in the passing game and provide Sam Leavitt with a dependable option underneath and a threat down the field.

LSU heads into Week 6 off a 63-6 win over McNeese State and now turns to Kentucky. The Wildcats dropped out of the AP poll despite beating South Carolina in Week 5, and they’ll look to make a statement when LSU comes to town.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET on Saturday on ESPN.

LSU Just Got Encouraging News At Two Crucial Positions

LSU got a useful dose of optimism this week on two fronts that matter a great deal to the rest of its season. Coach Lane Kiffin said tight end TreyDez Green and linebacker Whit Weeks, both lost to injuries in September, are expected to return at some point this year, offering a clearer path for the Tigers as they try to keep their momentum going. Green is out of his knee brace and moving freely, a sign that his recovery is trending the right way.

Weeks, meanwhile, is still working back from a fractured lower leg, but his situation remains part of the bigger picture for LSU as the schedule tightens. The Tigers have already managed to win recent games with other players stepping into those roles, but getting two key contributors back would deepen both sides of the ball and give LSU more flexibility when it matters most. LSU Got A Hopeful TreyDez Green Update Before SEC Play

LSU heads into SEC play this week coming off a win over McNeese, and the conversation around the program has quickly shifted to how ready the Tigers are for a tougher league stretch. Lane Kiffin offered a positive update on TreyDez Greens recovery while also touching on the broader health of the roster, a timely development as LSU starts sharpening itself for Kentucky and the grind that follows.

Kiffin also spent time sizing up the matchup on the other sideline, praising Kentuckys new head coach Will Stein and noting the coaching chess match between Joe Sloan and Blake Baker. There was more injury context as well, including the effect of Sam Leavitts hamstring issue, leaving LSU with a clearer picture of some moving parts but still a few questions to sort out before SEC play really gets rolling. LSU's Young Tigers May Have Forced Bigger SEC Roles

LSUs 63-14 win over McNeese was the kind of lopsided afternoon that can quietly change a depth chart. With injuries thinning out the starting lineup, younger Tigers were pushed into real snaps, and several of them made the most of the chance. On defense, freshmen Deuce Geralds, Zach Weeks and Jhase Thomas all stood out in a game where LSU controlled the line of scrimmage and kept piling up production.

The most striking sign came from freshman Corey Barber Jr., who turned a bigger workload into 7 catches for 83 yards and 2 touchdowns as LSU rolled to 731 total yards. Geralds also had a sack and a touchdown in the same game, the kind of all-around impact that coaches notice quickly in SEC season. Whether those flashes lead to even larger roles is the next question, but LSU may have found a few young players ready to stay in the rotation. [Read more 🡒]
