LSU is making waves once again, and this time, it's a big one.
Will Wade's return to LSU marks him as the fourth high-ranking staff member to make the leap to Baton Rouge since November. This move is part of a strategic reshuffle led by Wade Rousse, who took over as president of the Louisiana State University system on November 4, 2025. Previously at the helm of McNeese State University, Rousse has been instrumental in elevating LSU’s athletic program to new heights.
Rousse's first major decision was promoting Verge Ausberry to athletic director, a move that set off a chain reaction. This reshuffle paved the way for the arrival of head coaches Lane Kiffin and Will Wade, a scenario that seemed improbable just a year ago.
Kiffin's recruitment on November 30 was a highlight of a frenetic coaching carousel in college football. Lured away from Ole Miss, Kiffin was encouraged by none other than Nick Saban to seize the opportunity at LSU, highlighting the university's undeniable allure.
Wade's return to LSU's men's basketball team is equally significant. In his farewell to NC State, Wade expressed how personal this opportunity was, calling it a homecoming to a place deeply meaningful to him and his family.
After his dismissal from LSU in 2022 over NCAA violations, Wade found a second chance at McNeese, thanks to Rousse. Once Rousse ascended to LSU's presidency, the pieces began to align for Wade's return.
Heath Schroyer, another key figure in Wade's journey, was also part of this transition. As McNeese’s athletic director, Schroyer, along with Rousse, brought Wade to Lake Charles, where he led the Cowboys to two NCAA tournaments in two seasons. Now, Schroyer joins LSU as a Senior Deputy AD, overseeing external relations and men's basketball.
"My experience and commitment to collegiate athletics have prepared me for this amazing opportunity, and I can’t wait to get to work at LSU," Schroyer stated, underscoring the excitement surrounding this new chapter.
Wade's recent statements about being content at NC State took a turn with the promise of a larger NIL budget and Schroyer's presence, setting the stage for his return to LSU, announced on March 26.
LSU's strategic recruitment from top universities nationwide has crafted a powerhouse team of administrators and coaches in record time. Now, the focus shifts to their performance on the field and court, as fans eagerly await the results of this impressive lineup.
