LSU added another major piece to its 2027 recruiting class on Thursday, landing five-star point guard Reese Alston.
The 6-foot-2, 175-pound guard announced his commitment live on the CBS Sports College Basketball YouTube Channel, giving coach Will Wade his third high school pledge in the class. Alston is ranked No. 9 overall and No. 3 among point guards in the 2027 cycle by the 247Sports Composite.
He chose LSU from a final group that also included Kentucky, Tennessee, Louisville and Wichita State.
Alston said the decision came down to how comfortable he felt in Baton Rouge and the connection he’s built with Wade in a short amount of time.
“The trust I have with coach Wade,” Alston said. “I'm not even his player yet.
You know, we've known each other for like a couple months, but we've been through so much already. He's stuck by my side.
Even through everything we've been through already, so I know that a couple losses and a couple turnovers won't ruin our relationship.”
He also pointed to the style Wade wants to play as a fit for his game.
“The player that they can expect is just a fun, high, energetic player,” Alston said. “The way coach Wade plays and his system was the main reason.
Pick and rolls. High, fast pace, getting out in transition.
So, they can expect a lot. Energetic player, energetic style of play.”
Alston, who attends Second Baptist in Houston, is the son of New York streetball legend and former 12-year NBA player Rafer Alston, better known as “Skip to My Lou.” Rafer Alston played at Fresno State before being selected 39th overall in the 1998 NBA Draft, and he averaged 10.1 points and 4.8 assists per game in his NBA career.
Reese Alston is also known as “Lil Skip.” He received his first LSU offer from former coach Matt McMahon and his staff on Oct. 9, 2025, and last visited the program on Sept. 3.
As a junior, he averaged 22.2 points, 5.3 assists, 3.9 rebounds and 2.7 steals in 34 games. He also shot 61% from the field, 34% from 3-point range and 71% from the free-throw line, while leading his school to back-to-back TAPPS 5A State Championships. On the AAU circuit for PUMA, he was named MVP of the PRO16 League.
LSU’s 2027 class now includes Alston, 6-5 guard King Gibson and 6-7 forward Ahmad Hudson. Gibson is ranked No. 15 overall and No. 3 among combo guards by the 247Sports Composite, and he became the first five-star prospect to commit to the program since Will Wade added center Efton Reid, who was the No. 20 player in the 2021 class, according to ESPN.
Hudson is ranked No. 24 overall and No. 3 among power forwards by the 247Sports Composite. He plays at Ruston and also committed to LSU as a football player on May 3.

LSU May Be Weighing A Surprising Lamar Brown Role Change
Lamar Browns Instagram post has added a little intrigue to LSUs roster picture, because the freshman defensive lineman appears to be hinting at a possible move to the offensive line. Brown has mostly been used on the defensive side this season, and his playing time has been limited, which makes any potential shift worth watching as the Tigers continue sorting out where young talent might fit best.
LSU has not officially confirmed any position change, and for now Browns future remains in the realm of possibility rather than announcement. Still, a switch like this would be notable for a player whose early college role has not yet fully settled, and it gives the Tigers another personnel storyline to monitor as the season moves along. LSU Just Got A Stunning Title Vote Before Alabama Week
Nick Saban rarely hands out compliments lightly, which is why his latest national title pick turned heads around Baton Rouge. With LSU sitting at 6-2 and No. 15 in the rankings, the former Alabama coach pointed to the Tigers as a sleeper candidate to win it all, citing a team that has paired strong scoring with a defense that has done its part. Six of LSU's wins have come by 20 or more points, a sign that when the Tigers are rolling, they can separate from opponents in a hurry.
The timing makes the endorsement even more interesting with Alabama coming in at 6-2 and ranked No. 10 for a matchup that already had plenty riding on it. Saban did flag quarterback Sam Leavitt's turnover issues as a possible obstacle, a reminder that LSU still has questions to answer before any championship talk gets serious. Still, getting that kind of vote of confidence from Saban just before Alabama week adds another layer to a game that was already going to carry plenty of weight. [Read more 🡒]
LSU Faces An Early Recruiting Test In A Battle Fans Will Notice
The early stages of B.J. LaFells recruitment already have a familiar LSU feel to them. The son of former Tigers receiver Brandon LaFell, the 2029 prospect has picked up offers from LSU and Notre Dame, along with other programs, and the Tigers are leaning into a pitch that combines family ties with a long track record of developing NFL receivers.
For LSU, this is the kind of battle fans will notice because it reaches beyond the usual recruiting chatter and into legacy territory. Notre Dame gives him a national alternative with its own appeal, and the process is still just beginning, with coaching relationships and development opportunities likely to matter as much as any school name on the offer sheet.
