LSU Hit With Tough Gabe Reliford Injury Update

LSU football faces a significant setback as promising defensive end Gabe Reliford suffers a season-jeopardizing ACL injury, disrupting the team's defensive plans for 2026.

In a tough blow for the LSU Tigers, defensive end Gabe Reliford has been sidelined with a torn ACL, casting a shadow over his 2026 season. This news, confirmed by The Advocate, raises significant concerns about LSU's defensive lineup.

Reliford, a redshirt sophomore, was noticeably absent from Saturday's practice, sparking questions about his condition. Set to be a key player on the edge, Reliford had shown promise since his freshman year in 2024, appearing in all 13 games and securing 10 tackles.

Last season, Reliford's momentum was halted after just four games due to a rotator cuff injury. Before his season was cut short, he managed eight tackles and a tackle for loss, showcasing his potential. With veterans like Jack Pyburn, Patrick Payton, and Jimari Butler having graduated, Reliford was expected to step up and fill a significant role.

LSU will certainly feel the absence of Reliford’s robust run defense. While they’ve brought in defensive ends Jordan Ross and Princewill Umanmielen from the transfer portal, these new additions are primarily known for their pass-rushing prowess.

At 6-foot-3 and 265 pounds, Reliford offered a balanced skill set that made him a formidable all-around defender on the edge. Over his career, he’s accumulated 238 snaps, 11 pressures, and 10 stops, underscoring his impact on the field.

As the Tigers regroup, they'll need to adapt and find ways to compensate for the loss of Reliford's presence on the defensive line.
