Texas A&M’s 2028 recruiting class is still tiny, but the headliner is already a big one: five-star quarterback Donald Tabron III.
Tabron committed to the Aggies early last month after forming a strong bond with coach Mike Elko and first-year offensive coordinator Holmon Wiggins. Even with that commitment in place, his recruitment is far from over. He is scheduled to visit LSU this weekend, when Texas A&M meets the Tigers.
That trip comes after Tabron was on hand for Texas A&M’s Week 3 home loss to Kentucky, a 31-21 defeat that many, including me, consider the worst loss under Elko. Still, multiple sources said that game did not shake the commitment decisions of the 10 2027 commits and 2028 prospects who were in attendance.
The Aggies’ quarterback picture is also worth watching beyond the recruiting trail. Marcel Reed has struggled for consistency this season, throwing two interceptions against Kentucky and putting pressure on the redshirt junior to clean things up. Reed’s future with the program is now a major question, even though he has one more year of eligibility left.
For Texas A&M, Tabron’s elite arm talent gives the staff plenty to build around. The program also has 2027 four-star quarterback commit Jayce Johnson in the pipeline, which could shape the next step in the room if things stay on schedule.
Tabron, though, remains a priority for the Aggies. Texas A&M is home for him, but nearly every blue-blood program is expected to keep pushing for his commitment heading into next summer.
His visit also gives him another look at an offense that is trying to bounce back, especially Reed. Since taking over as the starter midway through the 2024 season, Reed has had plenty of success against LSU.

LSU Secondary Concern Just Grew Ahead Of Texas A&M
LSUs secondary is entering the Texas A&M week with a thinner margin for error than usual, and the first injury report only sharpened the concern. Safety Tamarcus Cooley is listed as questionable, while cornerback JaKeem Jackson is doubtful, adding uncertainty to a defensive backfield that needs as much stability as it can get heading into a key conference matchup.
The availability picture does not stop there, either. Tight end TreyDez Green, safety Dashawn Spears and receiver Phillip Wright are all listed as out, with Spears reportedly done for the season after a torn ACL and Wright confirmed by coach Lane Kiffin as out for the year. The caveat, of course, is that these reports can shift before kickoff, as LSU has already seen with quarterback Sam Leavitts previous designation, but for now the Tigers are managing a list that is already longer than they would prefer. LSU Fans Will Love Whos Coming Back For Texas A&M
A familiar face is headed back to Baton Rouge for one of LSUs biggest home dates of the fall. Freddy, the German traveler who picked up social media attention during his U.S. trip, said he will be at Tiger Stadium when LSU hosts Texas A&M on Sept. 26, giving Tigers fans another reason to circle the matchup.
Freddy was already on campus in June, taking in LSU and Tiger Stadium and sharing the experience with followers online. With the game set for a national ABC broadcast, his return adds another little bit of extra buzz to a night that already figures to draw plenty of attention. [Read more 🡒]

LSU heads into the Texas A&M matchup still sorting through its defensive depth, and the availability report suggests the Tigers may have to keep adjusting on the fly.
