LSU’s secondary overhaul could be getting another major boost - and this one has a familiar last name.
Faheem Delane, a four-star safety who saw the field for Ohio State as a true freshman in 2025, is trending toward Baton Rouge. A transfer portal prediction logged Thursday has Delane pegged to land at LSU, where he’d join his brother, current Tiger safety Mansoor Delane. If the move materializes, Faheem would become the third defensive back transfer to sign with LSU this offseason - a clear signal that the Tigers are serious about retooling the back end of their defense.
Delane played in 13 games for the Buckeyes last season, including their College Football Playoff matchup against Indiana. While his stat line - 12 tackles, one for loss - might not jump off the page, the context matters.
He logged 81 snaps on a loaded Ohio State defense, gaining valuable experience in high-leverage situations. That kind of exposure as a true freshman, especially at a program like Ohio State, is no small thing.
Originally from Olney, Maryland, Delane played his high school ball at Good Counsel, a well-known talent pipeline. He was a standout in the 2025 recruiting class, ranked No. 6 among safeties nationally and No. 2 overall in Maryland, according to Rivals' Industry Rankings. Now in the portal, he’s still carrying that four-star pedigree - Rivals ranks him as the No. 10 safety available.
What makes Delane such an intriguing fit for LSU isn’t just his upside or his family ties to the program. It’s the timing.
LSU’s secondary took its lumps last season, and with several departures, the Tigers are in full rebuild mode in the defensive backfield. Delane brings three years of eligibility and, more importantly, real game reps from one of the most competitive environments in college football.
If he does end up in purple and gold, LSU won’t just be adding a talented young safety - they’ll be adding a player who’s already shown he can hold his own on the big stage. That’s the kind of addition that can help stabilize a unit in transition and set a foundation for the future.
