Ole Miss is drawing a hard line around the student section at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium for Saturday night’s showdown with LSU.
With the No. 8 Rebels set to face the No.
7 Tigers in a game already loaded with emotion, Ole Miss Athletics told students Thursday afternoon that no one wearing opposing team gear or colors will be allowed into the student section. The policy also gives the school the power to remove anyone already inside the section if they’re found wearing LSU apparel or colors.
The message was blunt: “No person wearing an opposing team’s gear or color will be allowed entrance into the student section. Additionally, anyone found to be wearing opposing team apparel or colors in the student section will be removed,” the message read.
The move comes after months of tension between the programs, much of it tied to Lane Kiffin’s exit from Ole Miss after the end of the 2025 regular season and his eventual landing at LSU. That decision poured gasoline on an already heated rivalry between the fanbases.
There was already a reminder of how quickly things can get out of hand. During the baseball series at Swayze Field in April, an LSU fan who was not a student at either school ended up in right field, where many Ole Miss students sit in the general admission area. The situation escalated, leading to the LSU fan’s arrest after he retaliated against an Ole Miss student who sprayed a drink on him as he was leaving the section.
Ole Miss is also leaning on changes it made last season around the student section area, when work was done to keep fans with student section tickets from moving into other parts of Vaught-Hemingway Stadium after entering.
Saturday’s game is set for 6:30 p.m. CT on ABC, with LSU listed as a 2.5-point favorite in Kiffin’s return to Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.
