Ole Miss walked out of Vaught-Hemingway Stadium with a 32-24 win over LSU, and Trinidad Chambliss made sure the night ended with plenty of noise.
The Rebels quarterback delivered a huge performance against LSU’s defense, then capped his ESPN interview with Holly Rowe by shouting Ole Miss’ signature cheer with a very NSFW twist.
Chambliss, asked by Rowe about the win and his play, closed it out by saying: “HOTTY FUCKING TODDY”
That came after a statement game from the Ole Miss quarterback. Chambliss finished 33-of-48 passing for 363 yards with two touchdowns and an interception, while also adding a rushing touchdown. The 363 passing yards were the most he has thrown for in his Ole Miss career.
It was no small feat against a LSU defense that had given up just 248 combined passing yards over its previous two games.
The win also carried extra edge because it came against former Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin, now with LSU. Chambliss helped the Rebels beat their former coach in front of a loud home crowd, and the emotion showed after the final whistle.
As for whether he’ll be fined for the postgame F-bomb, Chambliss is unlikely to be hit with a fine from the team or the SEC. Ole Miss could still choose to discipline him in some way, and Chambliss may issue a statement about what he said on air, but there’s also a chance the Rebels simply let it go.
Hotty Toddy is one of Ole Miss’ best-known cheers and also functions as an unofficial greeting among fans. It’s something Rebels supporters say to each other during games and around other fans wearing Ole Miss gear.
For Chambliss, though, the phrase got a little extra fire on national TV after one of the biggest games of his college career. He started at DII Ferris State, and on Saturday night he looked right at home on a major stage.
