ESPN’s “College GameDay” landed in Oxford, Mississippi for Week 3, and the signs wasted no time going after the week’s biggest storyline: Lane Kiffin’s return to Ole Miss.
With the Rebels set to face LSU at 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC in a top-10 matchup, the crowd had plenty to work with. The game itself carries major stakes, but the scene around GameDay made clear where a lot of the energy was aimed.
Kiffin has long been a favorite target for sharp, funny signs, and that only ramped up with his new school coming back to his old one. One of the more biting signs leaned on “The Godfather: Part 2,” with Michael’s kiss of death to Fredo serving as the frame for how some fans viewed Kiffin’s exit.

There was also a mass-produced sign built like a classic Ole Miss presidential ticket, featuring the first names of Trinidad Chambliss and Kewan Lacy.

Guest picker Morgan Freeman even got a spot on a sign, and one younger Ole Miss fan brought a “Shawshank Redemption” reference that missed the mark a little, but still stood out. If the sign’s logic is followed all the way through, Kiffin would be the one who disappeared from Ole Miss, while Ole Miss itself becomes the prison in the comparison.

Not every sign was aimed at Kiffin, though. One made a serious accusation against Sam Leavitt, even if there was a tongue-in-cheek explanation floating around that he may have had some bad soy milk earlier in the week, which would help explain why he briefly showed up on the injury report as “doubtful.”
