Jordan Rodgers doesn’t see LSU’s trip to Ole Miss as the kind of game that defines a season, even with all the noise around Lane Kiffin’s return to Oxford.
On Wednesday’s edition of Get Up, Rodgers pushed back on the idea that the matchup is a must-win for LSU, even after Paul Finebaum said exactly that a day earlier.
“I think it’s a must-win for Lane’s ego… I think it means a lot to him,” Rogers said. “[But] this LSU football team is going to be judged by whether they make the College Football Playoff or not.
That’s why [Lane Kiffin] was brought here… so, in the grand scheme of things, this game matters. But it’s not a be-all, end-all.”
Rodgers said Kiffin gives LSU an edge “on both sides of the football,” but he also made it clear he believes Ole Miss has the “best quarterback in the country.”
The key, in his view, comes down to what Kiffin knows and what Trinidad Chambliss can handle. Rodgers pointed to Kiffin’s familiarity with Pete Golding’s defense from daily practice and said that insight should matter.
“He got to go against Pete Golding every single day in practice. He knows what causes that defense issues,” Rodgers said.
“[Lane] also knows what causes Trinidad [Chambliss] issues… but at the end of the day, you can call any play you want; you gotta execute it. It’s gonna come down to Trinidad Chambliss… can he show what he showed Week 1?”
LSU and Ole Miss are set to kick off Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. E.T. on ABC.
