LSU Added A Tackle Who Could Matter More Than Fans Think

Get ready for the LSU Tigers' highly anticipated clash with Clemson as Sean Thompkins Jr. takes the field, proudly wearing No. 65, a jersey with a storied past and an exciting future.

With kickoff against Clemson now 65 days away, LSU’s countdown has hit the number worn by offensive tackle Sean Thompkins Jr.

Thompkins arrives in Baton Rouge as part of the Tigers’ effort to add both new starters and depth along the offensive line. He brings 11 appearances and five Big-12 starts with him, which gives LSU at least some experience to work with, even if he still looks like a player who needs more time to grow into a steady every-week option.

That development path fits the setup in front of him. Jordan Seaton is locked in as the starting left tackle, which gives Thompkins a chance to sit, learn and build behind him during his first year with LSU.

Thompkins is a redshirt junior, though, so the clock is moving a little faster than it would for a younger player. He has two years of eligibility remaining, and it would not be a shock if this season becomes more about preparation now and another move later if he wants a starting job in his final year.

A Georgia native, Thompkins was rated a three-star guard coming out of high school. The 247Sports composite listed him as the No. 627 player in the country, the No. 54 interior lineman and the No. 62 player in Georgia.

His route to LSU took a turn in the transfer portal. Thompkins originally committed to North Carolina, then flipped to the Tigers just 10 days later. That decision cost him immediate playing time, but LSU’s resources give him a better shot to develop, with the possibility of competing for a starting role next season.

Nations Top Running Back Just Delivered Another Recruiting Gut Punch

The 2027 recruiting cycle keeps delivering jolts, and the latest one came from the top of the running back board. Kemon Spell, the No. 1 back in the class, changed his commitment in a move Rivals analysts called the biggest flip of the cycle so far, another reminder that even the most celebrated pledges are still very much in play as programs keep pushing.

Spells decision fits a broader pattern that has already seen other high-profile prospects move around, with names like AiKing Hall, Jaiden Bryant and Donte Wright all changing course as the cycle unfolds. For LSU, it is part of the larger reality of modern recruiting: the Tigers are still battling for elite talent elsewhere, but the board remains fluid enough that more twists could be coming before this class settles down. Paul Finebaum Just Took A Brutal Shot At Lane Kiffins LSU Future

Lane Kiffins arrival at LSU has already come with the usual mix of intrigue and skepticism, and Paul Finebaum added another layer this week during a SportsCenter appearance. The ESPN analyst used the buzz around Travis Kelce and Taylor Swifts upcoming wedding as a backdrop for a broader point about Kiffins future in Baton Rouge, making clear he does not see this as a long-term marriage between coach and program.

Finebaum has long been one of Kiffins sharpest critics, and his doubts are rooted in the coachs track record at Tennessee, USC, Florida Atlantic and Ole Miss. LSU is still getting ready for SEC Media Days, which begin July 20 in Tampa, but the conversation around Kiffin is already drifting beyond the usual offseason questions and into whether this partnership can last once the real pressure starts.
